) f THE CANADIAN STATESMAN, FEBRUARY 14,2001 PAGE 17 Strong effort leads Gens to 4-2 win BY BRIAN LEGREE Staff Editor Maybe it was a preview for next season. The Oshawa Generals got strong performances from a handful of rookies in scoring a convincing 4-2 win over the Kingston Frontenacs Frontenacs in Ontario Hockey League play Sunday at the Civic Auditorium. "I think of any game ; we've played this year, that's the most satisfying," i says George Burnett. | "We had three key mcm- : hers of our group out i (Kevin Mitchell, Jon Hed- ! berg, Scott Rozendal) and I ; thought our young guys ; (Eric) Larochelle, (Tobias) ! Whelan, (Ladislav) Kolda ; did a wonderful job and the ■ other guys as well (Sean) ; Stefanski, (Ben) Eager. I Everybody played a role." * The Generals, who picked up three of four points on the weekend (gaining one point for Friday's Friday's overtime loss in Kitchener), remain considerable considerable long-shots to qualify for the playoffs. Oshawa trails North Bay, which holds the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, by 12 points with 16 games remaining in the regular season. T.J. Accti took advantage of a rare start to make 31 saves in goal for Oshawa, while the Generals got markers from Jamie Johnson, Johnson, Mike Rice, Ryan Healy and an emply-netter from Pat Montgomery. The mission for the Generals Generals to claim the final playoff playoff spot, is simple, Burnett says. "We've got to continue to win hockey games - there's no question," he says. "We may need a little help, but if we're winning and we win some of these head-to-head games, we can make a difference ourselves." ourselves." The Generals have three games with North Bay remaining remaining this season, including including this Friday at the Civic Auditorium at 7:35 p.m. ATTENTION GIRLS AGES 7 ■ 20 Clarington Girls Slo-pitch Association OPEN REGISTRATIONS)» 2001 SEASON v * Sat.
