On Sunday, November 29, the Toros hosted the Pickering Panthers and came away 3-2 victors. Kurtis Sal way opened the scoring early for the Bulls as the boys came out eager for action. Pickering managed managed to tic the game at 1 -1, only to have Nathan Ro/s Enterprise Toros Split Weekend Games In Minor Novice Action The Roy's Enterprise Minor Novice "A" Toros split a pair of weekend games, bringing their league record to a mark of 5 wins and 5 losses. In a 2-1 decision over the Whitby Wildcats, Garrett Scattcrty opened up the scoring in the first, as he completed a three- way passing play with lincmates, Jeff Feldcamp and Josh Sullivan. The Toros upped the ante to a 2-0 margin midway through the middle frame, as Scattcrty fought off a pair of defencemen in the corner. His pass found a wide-open William Minnema for the easy tip- in. Also picking up an assist on the play, his second second of the night, was Jeff Feldcamp. Whitby finally got on the scoresheet with just under four minutes remaining in the game. Only a couple of Lange's Foto Travel to Cobourg After a two week lapse from regular season play, the Clarington Toros found themselves challenged by the Cobourg Cougars for the first game of the Cobourg tournament. The Cougars started the scoring on a power play in the first and added two in the third for a three goal lead. Goaltender Ryan Hibbard held the Cougars at three, robbing them of nujiierous scoring chances. ■With 11 seconds left, Cobourg lost its shutout when Jason Hicks deked the defence and blasted one by the glove of the Cougars netminder for a 3-1 final. Paul Reid assisted. Whitby Wildcats were on the board early in the first for the second game of the tournament. The Toros and Wildcats battled the remainder of the game with back and forth action and numerous shots on net. Toros Michael Szeremct made some great saves between the pipes. Wildcats prevailed with a 2-0 victory after an empty netter during the Toros last minute effort for a comeback. The Toros played their strongest game of the tournament tournament against Oshawa with a great team effort upsetting Oshawa's chance for the finals. Andrew Oliver started the scoring in the first after he broke through the defence and fired one past the Oshawa netminder. Brooks Robinson and Jeremy Farr assisted. Andrew Oliver, from behind the net, passed out front to Paul Reid who rilled one in the top comer for a two goal lead. Jason Morrison assisted. Great three-way play by Ryan Garniss, Jesse Bradburn and Josh Kewell accounted for two goals in the second as Garniss capitalized on two rebounds within 22 seconds. Oshawa came back with two to break Ryan Hibbard's shutout. The Toros continued to dominate dominate in the third and Hicks finished the scoring in the bottom corner with assists to Andy Chamberlain and Michael Oliver for a 5-2 victory. The Toros are now preparing for a tournament this weekend in Port Hope. " V) Hi acrobatic saves by the Toros, Peter Hamilton, preserved the 2-1 victory. The Novice's next challenge challenge would be to host the undefeated Ajax Warriors. After suffering a pair of road losses at the hands of the Warriors, the Toros were anxious to face their rivals for the first time at home, hoping to put an end to their visitor's streak. Ajax thought different, different, and came out flying, flying, firing three goals before the game hit the four minute mark. They added a fourth early in the second period, clearly dominating play, as they outshot the Toros by a 12- 1 margin. This fourth goal proved to be the wake-up call that the boys needed as they responded with a pair of second period goals of their own. The first came courtesy of an Eric Dcvera blast as he was sent in all alone by lincmates, Andrew Moore and Tyler Neil. The second goal came as a result of some aggressive forcchccking by Justin Bowles and Garrett Scattcrty, when Jeff Feldcamp seized a loose puck and fired the puck high into the twine. The Toros momentum continued into the third, only to be stalled as they were assessed three straight penalties in the final five minutes of play. Ajax was able to capitalize on one of their power play opportunities, rounding out the scoring, as they skated away with a 5-2 victory. Murray net a pair of goals to give Clarington a 3-1 lead. Murray also had an assist on Sahvay's goal, giving him a three point night to lead the Toro attack. Matthew Smith, Tyler Ferguson and Ryan Webb also picked up assists on Murray's goals. Clarington seemed to have the game well in hand heading into the third period, period, when the Toros ran into penalty trouble. The Panthers converted a two man advantage to cut the lead to 3-2. However, the defensive unit of Trevor Graham, Matthew Smith, Alex Ley, Mike Sycr, Jesse Aide and Tyler Beers, who was making his first appearance of the season on defence, really tightened tightened up and held Pickering off the scoreboard the rest of the way, killing off several several Panther power plays. Netminder Robbie Goddard was on top of his game, especially late in the third period, as he frustrated frustrated Pickering during several several shorthanded opportunities opportunities to help preserve the 3- 2 win. On Friday night, Clarington played host to Prince Edward County. Once again, the Toros got off to a quick start, but unfortunately ran into a rash of penalties in the third period and were forced to hang on for a very hard fought 4-4 draw. Kurtis Salway led the way with a two goal performance, performance, Tyler Ferguson and Jordan Beaudric each picking up singles. Brad Farrow, Trevor Graham, Corey Bradburn, Matthew Smith and Nathan Murray each contributing assists. Matthew Cooper was solid in the net, with several big saves while helping to kill off a couple of penalties late in the third period, to salvage the tic. On Thursday, the Toros travelled to Cobourg and had dropped a 5-2 decision to the high flying Cougars. The line of Tyler Ferguson, Brad Farrow and Nathan Murray had a solid night for the Bulls, as the boys were responsible for all five Clarington points. Ferguson scored a pair of goals, winger Brad Farrow chipped in with a pair of assists and Murray added one assist.
