God looked around His garden And He found an empty space, He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you, He lifted you to rest, God's garden must be beautiful beautiful For He only takes the best. God knew you were suffering, He knew you were in pain, He knew you would never get well In this world again. "In case of emergency, phone Bob Bate. " At the foot of every phone list over the years at our family restaurant, the Coronation Restaurant in Bowmanville, was the above rejoiner. Until Sunday, in his 88th year, Bob Bate was the solution for any problem, from "the milk man delivered skim milk instead of creamers" to "I think we need a plumber now." It is accurate to state that Bob was an integral part of the Coronation. Despite the different ethnicity, he became a family member of a family restaurant. He stood in loco parentis to the three Seto sisters. Since calling our elders by their Christian name was uncomfortable, we tried out several titles of respect on him - Bonnie and Gail suggested Uncle Bob - "No, it sounded like the CFTO Uncle Bobby Show." Finally we accepted that Bob was just Bob, like Manila of Anne of Green Gables. He made the restaurant his daily stop after Goodyear. From the base of his booth in the back at "Johnny's Place", he helped my dad and mom and Steven and Chris, new to the language and the culture of Canada. And what a help he was. We are sad to now bid farewell to Bob Bate, whose name is the first English word spoken by my niece Miranda, as was true of myself and my sisters. So much to remember and thank the Lord for. Bob currently patronizes the family restaurant run by the Holy Family. I can see him now, at the back booth of "God's Place", with a cup of coffee, a bowl of Chinese jook porridge, and advice on how to run the place to the manager. In an emergency, God has a good man to call upon. K 45-1S Card of Thanks I would like to thank my friends and neighbours for inquiries inquiries and cards during my' stay in Memorial Hospital..
