It generally lasts from mid- November to March. The best time to get your shot is from mid-October to mid-November. Remember, you can't "get the flu" from the flu shot because it contains only inactivated viruses. Who should get a flu shot? It's suggested for all persons over 65, those with underlying medical conditions (asthma, heart disease etc.) in which flu would cause complications. It is also recommended that residents and staff members of nursing homes get a flu shot. Since the vaccine is manufactured using eggs as a culture medium, those who have an egg allergy should not get the flu shot. How quickly does the vaccine work? Protection will begin about two weeks after vaccination and can last six months or more. Our job is to ensure you take your medication with understanding and accuracy. Please ask your pharmacist any questions you may have about medications. Remember, there are no stupid questions about drugs! Barbecue Raises $2,200 For Waverley School It was cold and cloudy but everyone was in good cheer at the Waverley Public School Barbecue September 22. There were lots of prizes to be won and lots of jumping to be done. All the prizes were donated by some supporters of the school and other corporate sponsors. This was the second year for the Waverley BBQ. It once again was a wonderful community event. This year we have a few more kids' activities like the Jumping Castle. (Which Mr. Quinlan and a few grade eights really enjoyed). We also had three clowns who made balloon animals and painted painted faces. We had about 500 people people turn out and we raised a total of $2,200. Thank you once again for coming out to support our school. We wish to thank the more than 70 sponsors who contributed to the Waverley BBQ. Terry Fox Fund-Raiser Recently our school has been raising money for the Terry Fox Foundation. The class that raised the most money was Mr. Quinlan's grade eight class who raised $323.95. Way to go to Class 82! The total raised by the whole school was $934.18.
