CMLI.i/TKe Concert Re-Visits 100 Years of Music in Orono This photograph of the Orono Band was taken around 1894/95 and therefore close to the time the Orono Town Hall was constructed. Modern-day successors of the Orono Band will be performing Saturday, May 23rd, in a 100th anniversary concert celebrating the centennial of the Town Hall. The performance will include the Country Four barbershop quartet. This concert is at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The musicians will recount band history in a program that also includes a toast to Queen Victoria. In keeping with the general general theme, tickets to the concert will have 1898 prices of just 25 cents. There's a limit of 125. CLARKE MUSEUM NEEDS BOOKS -- Donations of books can be dropped off at the Clarke Museum and Archives every day except Monday (pleitse call ahead). In Durham West, Hanover Hill Holsteins, Port Perry, was awarded the Highest Herd Average Award for 1997. Their BCA was 277-263-268, with a composite of 269.3. Production per cow continues continues to increase rapidly. Thé Durham West Average Composite BCA was 187.4. Other Durham West herds in the top five were: • Verdurclea Jerseys, Keith and Peter Doble, Sunderland • Twinholm Farms, Randy and Frances Fish, Cannington • Emlanc Farms Ltd., Scott Wilson, Port Perry • Crescent Jerseys, Bill Batty, Brooklin Keith and Robert Ashton, Port Perry, were the winners of the Greatest Production Increase Award, with an increase of 20.3 BCA points. Hilda Balling, Odesscy Holsteins, Scagravc, received the DHI Herd Management Award. In Durham East, Ralph Warren, Ganaraska Holsteins, Port Hope, was awarded the Highest Herd Average Award. His BCA was 269-264-288, with a composite of 273.1. There were 35 outstanding outstanding projects and the judges had great difficulty choosing the winners. Eleven students went on to compete in the Regional Science Fair held at Trent University on April 7th.
