The pole will serve as a perch and possibly a feeding station for birds. It was created as an Earth Day project on Wednesday, April 22. It used about 2000 cans contributed by students. These were flattened and then nailed to the pole, creating a multi-colored and multi-textured surface. Artist Kathryn McHolm, from Welcome, supervised the students. "They're actually painting with the different colors of cans," she said. The totem pole was part of the Visual Arts Centre's Curriculum Connections program. Pictured here arc Lloyd, Ryan, Patrick and Chaysc who are among the approximately 300 students working on the project. Ebenezer U.C.W. President Olive Munro gave the second in a scries of short presentations on the book of Esther. We are finding them very interesting. interesting. With Eileen Down at the piano, we sang from 'Favorite Hymns Of Praise'. Eileen said she chose these hymns because they were inspirational, comforting, biblical or prayerful. This made a beautiful worship as many of our ladies are choir members. We appreciated the research done by Eileen for the program which was about the the early settlers. The book used was 'Canadian Settler's Guide' and the author, Catherine Parr Traill, settled in the Lakcficld-Petcrborough area. It offered advice to the wives and daughters who were planning to emigrate to Canada in the early 1800's. Eileen also gave us interesting details about life in our own section of Ontario. We sang the Lord's prayer to close. The choir brunch will be held Sunday, May 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tickets arc available from Bernice Pearce at 436-2560 and everyone is welcome. We are invited to Ladies' Ecumenical Luck Supper at Sol (Eldad) at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 4. This always a good evening, all stayed to enjoy the U lunch and fellowship.
