Novelist to Read at Trent Novelist Jane Urquhart, author of Away, reads from her work March 19 in Peter Robinson College dining hall at 8 p.m. as part of Trent University's Writers Reading series. Urquhart started her writing career as a poet, publishing three collections in the early 1980s. Her literary reputation has grown rapidly over the past decade with the publication of short stories and novels: The Whirlpool, which won France's AIX for best foreign book, Changing Heaven and the critically critically acclaimed Away. Fire Department Dog Teaches Safely Skills Lucky, the Dalmatian which has become the mascot at Bowmanville's fire station, recently proved he's more than just a fire-house tradition. The dog was used to demonstrate an important safety message to students at S.T. Worden School. Using a dog biscuit as motivation, Fire Prevention Officer Randy Reinert was able to convince Lucky to stop, drop and roll over. That also happens to be the advice used to describe what to do if your clothing catches on fire. Lucky is shown above, during his visit to the school as part of a Celebrity Readers' Program last month. The students were also told about the history of Dalmatians and fire departments, all of which is available in books at local libraries. Cjneplex odeon Cl Ak'ir j< .i< >N Pi AC I ClNIMA'.
