i ■ : - • School Board Briefs Student Trustee Takes Office Board Vice-chairperson Catharine Tozer welcomed Aaron McNair, the Northumberland-Clarington School Board's first student trustee to the board meeting on February 6. Aaron, a Grade 12 Port Hope High School student, was appointed to the position by the Student Senate to represent represent students across the jurisdiction at the Board table. He addressed the Board and read a Mission Statement he prepared for the role. Aaron will act as the Student Trustee for one semester and another student will be appointed by the Student Senate next semester. Scholarships for Clarington Students Through the will of the late J.I. Carter, of Sarnia, a total of three scholarships are offered annually to students in a number of selected counties counties across Ontario, including those from The Northumberland-Clarington Board of Education and the Northumberland and Clarington part of The Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland and Clarington Roman Catholic Separate School Board. These scholarships are awarded to students obtaining the highest standing in the two jurisdictions jurisdictions on six OAC credits. - The Ministry of Education and Training has confirmed that this year's scholarship recipients for the combined area include: first place - Jackie Dellaire of ' Cobourg District Collegiate East. second place - Khai Nhu Ong of Courtice Secondary School third place (tie) - Graham Jones of Cobourg District Collegiate East, and Christian McArthur of Bowmanville High School. To mark the occasion, the men of the church prepared and served up a delicious meal of roast chicken with all the trimmings.
