The derby, hosted by the Kinsmen Club of Port Perry, supported the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Novice Selects are 'D' Champ s The C.R.H.L. Novice Select Eagles became the 'D' champions champions at the Bewdlcy National Novice Tournament on Sunday, January 19. The boys were ready to play hard against the Humber Valley San Jose Sharks. The Eagles opened the scoring scoring in the first period at the 4:52 mark with a goal unassisted by Mike Murphy. The next goal of the game came to Eagles right wing Chris Marchant, on an assist by Sean Northam with 2:42 . remaining in the first period. The Sharks scored at 2:35 of the second period making it 2-1 for the Eagles. Flying into the third period the Eagles kept their spirits high and put a lot more pressure on the Sharks again scoring by Murphy at the 9:02 mark, unassisted, to make it 3-1. At. 7:32 of this period the Sharks scored on a scramble in front of the net for a 3-2 game. With the Eagles fans loudly cheering on their favourite team, Stephen Thomas set up Murphy at 5:41 to make the final score of 4-2 for the Eagles. The last few minutes were exciting as the boys were determined to keep the two goal lead. When the team and the fans counted down the last 10 seconds the Eagles knew the championship championship was theirs. Congratulations are extended to the team players and their coaching staff. The Eagles lineup lineup consists of forwards: Daniel VanWinkle, Chris Marchant, Sean Northam, Keegan Lawson, Ryan Webb, Justin Lidston, Stephen Thomas, Mike Murphy and Ryan Cross. The defencemen for the Eagles are: Matthew Smith, Jeffrey Ward, David Connelly, Jason Cad well, Jesse Aide, and Patrick Dwyer. The outstanding goalies in this game were Ralph Hamelinck and Tim Dale. The Novice Select Eagles are coached, trained and managed managed by Mike Dale, Mike Thomas, Rick Cross, Wayne Lidston, Glen Smith and Lynne Dale. Durham TV Holds First Place January 18 was the scene of a much anticipated match between the first and second place teams in the Major Tyke Division. On Friday, January 3, the Kinsmen Minor Bantam Toros returned to league action. The game, from the Toros perspective, was slow with giveaways and very few scoring chances, while Whitby showed up to play and earned themselves a 4-1 victory over the home squad. Scoring the lone Toros goal was Derek Broley with the assists going to Brandon Baker and Ian Gleeson. -Their next game on January 8, was against Peterborough who had buried the Toros in their previous meeting. The Toros found themselves down 1-0 in the first period period but hung in and tied it early in the second on a goal by Jared Greening assisted by Ian Gleeson and Dan Turcotte. Peterborough recaptured the lead later in the period. Chris Laton got the Toros even again early in the third with a goal assisted by Jared Greening and Adam Smith. Ian Gleeson gave the Kinsmen squad the lead assisted by Dan Turcotte. The Toros skated hard and played well, but the visitors managed to net the tying goal with just over six minutes remaining remaining in the game. After playing to a 3-3 tie with the Peterborough Nationals the previous week the Kinsmen Toros travelled to Peterborough for their last tic the game. They managed one goal on a power play with the extra attacker but the fiesly affair ended 5-4 in favour of the Kinsmen squad. Scoring for the Toros were Brandon Baker (2g), Chris Laton ( 1 g), Jason Grccnham (lg), Scan Pudlis (Ig, 2a), Derek Broley (3a), Dan Turcotte and Jared Greening with an assist each. The final regular season game for the Toros was played in Ajax in a game the Toros controlled after a slow start except for a couple of minutes in the third period when the Kinsmen let Ajax back into the game. The Toros watched a 6-2 lead disappear, allowing three goals in a one minute, 7 second second span making it 6-5, but held on for the win. Marksmen for the Toros were John Black (3g), Nick Smith (lg, 2a), Ian Gleeson (2g), Brandon Baker, Daryl Stockman, Mike Cyr, Chris Laton and Jay Henderson each with one assist. The Minor Kinsmen Toros finish the regular regular season with a 16-12-2 record and now will wait to see who their opposition will be , in the playoffs. Less than four minutes into the first period, Steven Parsons fed a perfect pass through a maze of Blessing legs to Tyrone Vanson, who lifted the puck top shelf to open the scoring. scoring.
