Mayors Call for Report On Incident at Pickering Nuclear Power Station The Clarington Independent, Bowmanville, Saturday, December 24,1994 7 The regional chairman and six Durham mayors met on Wednesday morning to discuss a leak at Pickering Pickering Nuclear Station earlier this month. Gary Herrema told The Clarington Clarington Independent the special meeting was called to examine the situation which took place one and one-half weeks ago. Chairman Herrema said he wanted wanted to know the level of danger associated associated with the incident when he was first informed that it took place. "I wanted to know if it was a One or a Two and I did not receive the information I needed when the me dia began making calls to me," the Chairman said. He and the mayors present asked that a report be brought before the special committee. The report will give details on what took place, how people responded to the incident, and how much material was leaked. Chairman Herrema noted he wanted the amounts in language he could understand. "I want to know how many gallons leaked. That I can understand! "I want clear answers." A report is expected before regional regional councillors on Wednesday, Jan. 16,1995.
