"It's simple logic," he explains. "Most moves end at the destination in the evening or at night, and unless it'sa full-pack move, where everything everything is unpacked and put away by the moving crew before they depart, the majority of householders find themselves in a quandry - where on earth are the things they need, just to get through the first night?" 6 Months 7.000% 1 Year 7.750% 8.750% 3 Year 9.125% Anyone who's experienced a move knows the problem well. Children Children can't or won't go to sleep without without a favourite toy or blanket; someone someone in the family needs a daily medication; someone else is hungry, and it's too late to go to a restaurant; and perhaps most common (and worst of all), you can't find the bathroom bathroom tissue, or the baby needs a diaper! diaper! How do you avoid these easily- avoidablc problems? Easy, says Griffin, Griffin, who as head of marketing for Allied Allied Van Lines oversees several thousand thousand moves annually, you pack one 4 Year 9.250% 5 Year 9.400% 7 Year 10.000% 10 Year 10.250% 10.700% box - the special box - last. Allied's movers know how important important that special box is, and they make available a distinctive "FIRST NIGHTER" carton to make it easy for clients to find those all-important items without which no household can at least functionally and comfortably comfortably start life on their first night in their new home. What should go in a "FIRST NIGHTER" carton? Allied movers know from experience, and they've even prepared a checklist to help consumers consumers make sure they're prepared for almost any eventuality. "We see a large part of our job as making sure every move is, both a careful one and a smooth one," says Griffin. "In this case, that means knowing, mostly from past experience, experience, what homeowners find most important, even necessary, to make that first night comfortable." Among the essentials Allied recommends recommends . be included among "FIRST NIGHTER" contents arc underclothing underclothing and pajamas for children, diapers if there's a baby in die household, household, a favourite toy or two for each child, a set of sheets and blankets for everyone in the family and, of course, pillows for all. Soap, a washcloth and towels arc also considered considered useful to have right at hand, as arc such essentials as any prescription prescription or over-the-counter medications any family member requires. The family telephone book, they say, is an absolute necessity, as arc a flashlight flashlight or candles, and the numbers of any local contacts, especially doctors, in the new home area. As a personal suggestion, Griffin adds his thought that some families also include the ingredients for a quick meal in their "FIRST NIGHTER" NIGHTER" box. Nothing perishable, of course, he reminds those who are moving, but something like canned soups or stews, or meals of that nature, nature, that can be prepared quickly and easily if family members arc hungry. And don't forget, he adds, the pot or pan that's needed to prepare the meal. "Most families will use between one and three "FIRST NIGHTER" boxes, explains Griffin, and these arc always the last boxes placed on the truck, so that they're the first taken off by the moving crew at the new home. After all, when you need something like medication or diapers, you need them now - not later!" "FIRST NIGH 1ER" boxes will soon be available at any participating agent of Allied Van Lines, as will be a general checklist of special items to consider for the last boxes on the truck. Both will be available free to consumers who move with Allied. The program is a re-affirmation of the company's "family-first" policy, which is founded on the principle that while Allied is known worldwide as "The Careful Movers", it's never lost sight of the fact that it's families and people they move. "If consumers don't ask for them," says Griffin, "our move foreman foreman will usually suggest one or more. With all the families they've transported over the years, most have a pretty good idea of what's needed." Allied's approach to managing "FIRST NIGHTER" possessions is last in the truck, first off the truck so that their customers have a comfortably comfortably soft landing in their new home on that all-important first night.
