It will take place between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. For the younger folks, there will be a bike and trike decorating contest at 1 p.m. Hot dogs, coffee, doughnuts and pop will be available. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 23RD MP HOLDS PUBLIC MEETING - Durham MP Alex Shepherd will host a Social Security Review Forum at Durham College from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. this Sunday. The forum is in Theatre Cl 13 and will be chaired by Durham College President Gary Polonsky. SPORTS COMPLEX RE-NAMED - The Bowmanville Recreation Complex will be officially re-dedicated on Friday, October 28th, at 11 a.m. It will be named the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex in memory of the former mayor of Newcastle who also was the leader of the fund-raising effort which helped build the complex. YULETIDE AT THE MILL - From November 18th to 20th, the Visual Arts Centre in Bowmanville will present Yuletide at the Mill. This is a craft sale with entertainment, treats for the children, hot cider, gingerbread, and an opportunity to do some holiday shopping. The yuletide festivities at the mill coincide with a display of 100 impressive small paintings that are ideal Christmas gifts. CARD TOURNAMENTS AT LEGION - Three new card tournaments will be taking place Sunday afternoons at the Bowmanville Legion in November and December. On November 20 there will be a cribbage tournament. Euchre will be played November 27th and cribbage on December 11. Registration takes place at noon on each of the above days, with the play beginning at 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome. ASTHMA OUTREACH - Asthma Outreach Sessions will begin on Tuesday, October 25, at Memorial Hospital Bowmanville. These programs are offered free of charge and arc intended to promote a more normal lifestyle for asthma sufferers through education and compliance with prescribed medical therapies. UNITY IN DIVERSITY WEEK - The second week in November has been designated Unity in Diversity Week. Mayor Diane Hamre will formally proclaim the week on Monday, November 7. On Saturday, November 12, there will be a multicultural celebration in the afternoon. You can enjoy multicultural food, music, costumes, songs and dances. Then on Wednesday, November 16, there will be a panel discussion on the topic of Unity in Diversity. Panelists include a delegate from the Ministry of citizenship, Dr. David Smith of the Hospital for Sick Children and a local representative. The Unity in Diversity Committee urges everyone to plan to attend these events because they benefit the whole community. MEETS IN COURTICE The -Learning Disabilities Association, Oshawa Chapter will meet at 7 p.m. in the Dr. Emily Stowe Public School in Courtice on Thursday, October 27. The speaker will be Bill McMaster, of the Sagonaska Demonstration School. His topic will be the Association's Method of Language, which uses a multi-sensory teaching/leaming strategy. DURHAM LIBERALS PLAN FUND-RAISER - The Durham Liberals are holding a fund-raiser at Durham College on Saturday, October 29, at Durham College cafeteria. The Hon. Sergio Marchi, federal Minister of Immigration, will be thé special guest of MP Alex Shepherd and the Durham Liberals. The evening will include an ethnic foods buffet and prize give-aways to raise funds. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. HAUNTED ORCHARD Everyone is invited to tour the "Haunted Orchard" on Middle Road October 28, 29 and 30. Empire Orchard is offering wagon rides through the property, with assistance from students of the Courtice Secondary School senior drama club who will be providing the scary effects. Tours start at six p.m. on all three nights. After the ride through the orchard, you can enjoy a bowl of hot soup and apple cider in the bam. There will be an admission charge, with a reduced rate for families. THE ODD COUPLE - For their fall production, the Bowmanville Drama Workshop will present a broadway favorite with a twist.
