This is your opportunity to hear and see word artists plying their wits and wares. Visit ARTFEST and meet the artists of the Durham Folklore Society. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1ST BICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION - The weekend of Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2, marks the 200th anniversary of the arrival of the first setders to the area which would later become known as the Township of Darlington. To celebrate this event, there will be a pancake breakfast at the Bowmanville Harbor Conservation area Saturday, October 1. Bowmanville's Optimist Club will be serving up the flapjacks. Proceeds from the breakfast will support Optimist Club projects in the community. Saturday's program also includes the official opening of the first leg of Clarington's waterfront trail. The breakfast begins at 8 a.m. Later in the day, there will be an Olde Tyme Street Party at the Town Hall in Bowmanville. Many local entertainers, including fiddlers, singers, doggers and clowns, will participate. Festivities will take place both inside the building and outdoors. There is no admission charge for this event. The street will be closed to vehicles during the party. Remember that your donation supports 40 community service agencies in the three municipalities. Together, they serve an estimated 80,000 people. ONTARIO HOME WEEK -- Realtors will be celebrating private property rights with "Ontario Home Week" from September 25 to October 1. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - The Oshawa and District Association for Community Living is seeking male volunteers who are needed as role models and friends. The association supports individuals with developmental handicaps.
