Money raised will help support a trip to Florida that the team will be taking from October 5-10. A number of exhibition matches have been scheduled during the tour. No word on whether the games will be played indoors, or out on the beach, which seems to be the most popular version of the game with sun-worshipers who reside in warmer climates. Goodyear Eagles Open Exhibition Schedule Record 5-3 Home Ice Victory over Napanee Raiders UNBEATABLE -- Quite a story out of Orono this past week regarding the Orono #2 soccer team that is entered in the DYSL's tyke division. After a year in which the team failed to register a victory in 15 outings, they turned their fortunes around this past season, posting an unblemished record of 13-0-1 in league play. Congratulations to the players, and their coaches, Allison Jury and Jim Beam. Their record reminds us of the question: Which is harder to do? Win all of your games, or lose them all? JR. Telephone 623-3396 by Brad Kelly It was just over four months ago that the Bowmanvillc Goodyear Eagles Eagles and Napanee Raiders staged a gritty, intense, seven-game playoff series in the Ontario quarter-finals. Both clubs renewed their rivalry on Sunday night at the Recreation Complex, though much of the grit and intensity displayed back in May was missing. After all, it's the fall exhibition schedule, and not the spring trek towards towards an Ontario championship. Bowmanvillc, however, did display display flashes of mid-season form, posting an easy 5-3 victory. Steve Desmedt, Gary Armstrong, Ryan Becker, Jason McQuat, and Chad Taylor scored singles for Bowmanvillc, who held period leads of 2-1 and 3-2. The victory was the second of the pre-season for Bowmanvillc, who opened their schedule with a 7-3 win in Port Perry on Thursday, September September 15. Though the start of the regular season isn't until October 2, Bow- manville appears to have the makings makings of a hockey club that will be quite capable of defending its Central Central League title. "We have a lot of offensively talented players who can skate, and we have more size in the lineup than last year," said coach Mark Watson following Sunday's win over Napanee. Napanee. "Once we can get our defence shored up, we'll be fine.' ' Much of the size in Sunday's victory victory came from forward Jason McQuat, who made a physical impact impact immediately. McQuat, who played the last two seasons with the Oshawa Generals of the OHL, has Fundraiser Includes Philadelphia Flyers The Stanley Cup champion Philadelphia Flyers will be playing playing at the Bowmanvillc Recreation Recreation Complex in January. Another of the newcomers who impressed was forward Chad Taylor, Taylor, who saw duty on the top line with over-ager Curtis Hodgins and captain Todd Cannings. In addition to his shorthanded goal late in the third period, he added an assist on Desmedt's tally that opened the scoring. Barry Crawford, fresh off a train ing camp stint with the Peterborough Peterborough Petes, went the distance in goal. Two of the three goals to get past him were power play markers. The second came late in the third period with Bowmanvillc two men down. Bowmanville will close out their exhibition schedule on Sunday night when they host Campbellford of the Eastern League.
