ONTARIO GOVERNMENT NOTICE NOTICE OF STUDY COMPLETION Highway 2 Reconstruction, from Newtonville easterly to Welcome, Town of Newcastle and Hope Township, Regional Municipality of Durham, County of Northumberland. , W.P. 98-82-00 THE STUDY The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and Regional Municipality, of Durham are negotiating the transfer of ownership of Highway 2 from MTO to the region. Prior to assuming the highway, the region requested that the section between Newtonville and Boundary Road be constructed in 1994. To fulfill this request, MTO found it possible to divide the original project into two sections. The section between Boundary Road and Welcome will be addressed by an Environmental Study Report to be prepared later this year. Construction on the section between Newtonville and Boundary Road is proposed for late this summer. MTO has now completed the detail design for, the construction of Highway 2 between Newtonville and Boundary Road. Under this proposal, MTO plans to widen the existing pavement from 6.1 m to 7.0 m wide, with 2.0 m shoulders. Minor adjustments to the vertical alignment, intersection improvements and minor improvements to the existing drainage system are proposed. THE PROCESS This study followed an approved planning process. Following contacts with external agencies and the public and a review with the Ministry, it has been determined that this project will not result in any significant detrimental environmental effects, and is therefore subject to reduced documentation. A letter outlining the review has been filed with the Ministry of the Environment and Energy. If after July 18, 1994 significant concerns have not been identified, further documentation will not be prepared and construction may start without further notice. COMMENTS We are interested in hearing any comments or concerns you may have about this project. With the exception of all personal information, all comments will become a part of the public record.
