The 8th Annual Larry Bews Skilled Trades Hockey Tournament was held Saturday April 9 and Sunday Sunday April 10 at Newcastle Village Arena. This two-day, 12-team tournament tournament involves teams from all of the Oshawa Autoplex. Larry Bews died March 11,1986, the result of an industrial accident in the car plant body shop. Since then, a hockey tournament has been held annually annually with the intention of stimulating stimulating community awareness and bring ing skilled tradespersons together from around the Autoplex. Last year, this tournament raised $9000, which was donated to local charity in Larry Bews' name. The grand prize of this year's lucky draw is a four-day and three- night trip for two to Las Vegas. As the tournament becomes more family oriented every year, some activities activities were planned for the kids. Breakfast, lunch and refreshments were also available. The above members of the Durham Christian High School badminton team are competing this weekend weekend in one of the largest Christian school badminton tournaments in the province. Teams from as far away as Sarnia and Ottawa will be joining the tournament that is being held at Humber College in Toronto. Toronto. As hosts, Durham Christian are hoping for some top finishes. The Rockton Real McCoys deadlocked deadlocked their Ontario Jr. C semi-final series against the Bowmanville Goodyear Eagles with an 8-5 victory victory on Wednesday night. A sparse crowd of only about 400 was on hand for Wednesday night's game in Dundas. The winner of this best-of-seven series will face the winner of the other semi-final being contested between between Belle River and Mount Forest. Forest.
