Rotary began the tournament with a 9-5 win over Whitby Optimist. Bryan Barchard had five goals, Dave Lindbcrg two goals, with solo efforts by Alex Henderson and Stephen Cor- nclissen. Assists went to Allan McGrath (4), Kenny Roberts (1), Alex Henderson (1), Cody Vesters (1), Kevin Connelly (1), and Philip Osier (1). Rotary's next • opponent was McGregor's IDA, with Rotary coming coming out on top winning 7-1. Bryan Barchard Barchard and Stephen Comclisscn provided provided all of the Rotary's scoring with March Break Sends Halminen Homes to Georgetown Tourney The Bowmanville Toro Major Bantams, sponsored by Halminen Homes, took part in the 34lh annual Georgetown Tournament during the March Break. The team started the tournament on a strong note despite being without without three regular team members. In the first game against Oakville they opned up a four goal lead in the first six minutes only to see the opposition opposition cut the lead in half before the first period was over. .The Toros were hit with six straight penalties in the second period and were fortunate that Oakville only managed to score once to make the score 4-3 going into the final period. After being on the defensive for the whole second period, they found it hard to get on track and Oakville tied the game at 4-4 early in the frame. The Toros picked themselves up after this and two goals in the last four minutes guided them to a 64 victory. Derek Arnold received the game MVP for the team. -■ In game two, the team met Hum- berview from the MTHL and in an entertaining game that they should have won, they found themselves down 2-0 before they finally broke the shutout. V A win in their final game of the round-robin against Newmarket would have left them with four points, the same as Newmarket and Hiimberview. The game was very important important for both teams and you could tell in the play, as both teams were very tentative in the opening period. ' The second period produced four goals. Newmarket were the. first to score at 7:40 and then again at 6:44, but the Halminen Homes team got two of their own at 5:31 and 2:15 to tic the game going into the last peri- oil. - The Toros pulled out all the stops tp' try and get the winning goal, even pulling their goalie with over a minute minute to go, but it was to no avail as Newmarket hung on for the tie, which left them going into the Championship Championship round and the Toros heading heading home. Rotary and Durham T.V. met in a very exciting championship game with Rotary winning by a 5-3 margin. Minutes into the game, Rotary were down two players due to early penalties, penalties, but held Durham TV scoreless. After a scoreless first period, Bryan Barchard scored two quick goals to give Rotary a 2-0 lead. Members of the Rotary Club Major Tykes were presented with individual trophies following their 5-3 win over Durham TV and Antenna in the 'A' final of a Bowmanville Recreation Hockey League tournament tournament on Saturday. Major Tyke teams competed against each other throughout the two-day tournament that was held at the Recreation Complex on Friday and Saturday. As an added bonus, a card show took place in the banquet hall. The Canadian Legion Branch 178 Midget Toros advanced to the semifinals semifinals in York-Simcoc playoff action by eliminating Pickering with a 4-2 victory.
