On Saturday evening a large crowd of friends and relatives gathered gathered at the Nestlcton Hall to hold a surprise Jack and Jill in honor of Community Liaison Group Working on Best Method to Remove Port Granby Waste By John Veldhuis The Clarington Community Liaison Liaison Group is now hard at work selecting selecting the preferred method of removing removing the low level radioactive wastes from the Port Granby dump site. To achieve this, a subcommittee from the Clarington Community Liaison Liaison Group was set up consisting of Mr. William Clarke, Mr. Eric Jclinski and Mr. John Stephenson. This group has examined two documents RAP 1 and--RAP 2 which describe most of the known methods of deal-, ing with the volume of mixed wastes at Port Granby. Because of the complexity complexity of the wastes and the method of dealing with these wastes and methods of remediation a consultant was assigned to the group by the Siting Siting Task Force Secretariat.- He.is Mr. David DuBois from Colder Associates Associates Ltd. Mr. DuBois will be working with the subcommittee to come up with the preferred method or methods of dealing with the removal or remedia tion of the wastes at the site. The Clean-up criteria subcommittee subcommittee is nearing the end of its work and is ready to make recommendations for the Port Granby site. We are now better able to answer the question "How clean is clean enough?" On Sunday afternoon Gerald and Joyce Kelly visited Fred Pawley of Port Hope and accompanied him to visit his wife Nancy in the Port Hope Nursing Home. Later they were dinner dinner guests of Fred. On Sunday morning, many local members of the Van Camp family attended attended church service at St. Stephen's Stephen's United Church in North Oshawa where a stained glass window window was dedicated in memory of Stephen Stephen Saywcll, long time minister of this church. Eighteen ladies met at the home of Margaret Mountjoy for the November November 17 U.C.W. meeting. Edith McLaughlin, our unit leader, leader, opened the meeting with a poem, "Clouds." She welcomed everyone and thanked Margaret for hosting the meeting. Business was dealt with by the meeting.. Connie Swain had the worship. She was getting us ready for Christmas season and read from "Reaching for Rainbows" by Arm Weems. Eileen McLaughlin was responsible responsible for the program. She introduced introduced Michelle Balsam who modelled modelled and showed us her "weekend clothing." The Christmas meeting will be at Lois Luke's home on December 14 at 10:30 a.m. with a pot luck luncheon. All ladies arc welcome to come and bring your pot. Much to the dismay of the existing board members, no one showed up! People, where is your sense of community community spirit? Maybe I should have stressed the importance of having the H.C.A. The board must function in order for the Community Centre to remain open. If the centre is closed where will the Brownies, Pathfinders, Scouts or A.A. meeting? How many of you have had a celebration there, at a great price because you are a resident? resident? The H.C.A. meets once a month. The main agenda is a curator's curator's report Filling you in on hall rentals rentals and other items pertaining to it. The Hampton Community Association Association is a non profit organization. If any events are planned, the moneys go back into the community. The United Church Women of Hampton met on Monday, November 15th. Their guest speakers were the four local Pathfinders who attended Guelph '93 International. The Wednesday Euchre Card Party Party had some fine results. Doreen Ferguson Ferguson had the highest score of 91. In second place was Fred Watson with 81. Rac Shackleton also had 81. This was followed by Marg Hall with 78 and Harvey Ycllowlccs who had 76. Don Cochrane had the Most Lone Hands of five. The night's Most Honest Honest Player was George Harper. No one won the Special. The draw winners winners were Ruby Trewin, Ruby Smith, Wilma Goyne, Alma Langmaid and Harvey Ycllowlees. This past Sunday a Men's Breakfast Breakfast was held in Hampton. Everyone is welcome welcome to join in on the fun of decorating decorating and singing Christmas Carols. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served in the center afterwards. A Mitten Tree Service will be held on Sunday, December 5th. The new mittens, scarves and hats arc then collected and sent to the needy. This will also be the Advent Carol Service..It will be a combined service at the Zion Church at Mitchell's Corner. Corner. The White Gift Service will be held December 12th at 9:30 a.m. in the C.E. Wing. The Sunday School will be participating. Everyone is asked to please bring a non- perishable unwrapped item. These could be playing cards, candies, colognes, colognes, socks etc. Also please note that it is Turkey Tree Time again: For every twenty- five dollars collected in donations, a turkey cut-out is placed on the tree.
