Friends were pleased to greet Past President Bcmic Martin who has been ill. On Thursday evening, November 18, at Newcastle Community Hall, the Newcastle Seniors enjoyed their regular card games. Winners were, 1st Marion Sears, 2nd Phyllis Mill- son, 3rd Marg Denny, 4th Eva Smith, 5lh Don Thompson, and 6th Robin Alldrcd. Draws were won by Jack Barkwcll, Vance Cooper, Vi Hayward, Hayward, Phyllis Millson, Eleanor Perrin, Perrin, Marg Todd, Morloy Flintoff, Thcrcsc Plcsovnig, Ruby Bmnt, Carl Todd, Janet Paedcn and Olive Little. On November 13, neighbour Mùr- ray Martin attended the 50lh wedding anniversary celebration in honour of his uncle and aunt, Leslie and Edna Meyers, Uxbridge. ; On Monday evening the Newcastle Newcastle Lioness met in the Lion's Den of the Newcastle Community Hall. Guest speaker Fleurette presented her topic, Native Spirituality. . On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Brenton Rickard attended a Lions meeting in Norwood. On Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. Brenton Rickard enjoyed the fabulous Show- boat at North York Performing Arts Centre. Last Thursday Mrs. Pauline Storks attended Clarington Hydro meeting. Last Monday Maxine Fclgate, Claremont, spent the day with her mother, Mrs. Gladys Wood. Mrs. Wood enjoyed Sunday afternoon afternoon and evening with Stewart and Jean Wood, Orono. Newcastle Horticultural Society holds its Christmas Pot Luck dinner and Show at Newcastle United Church Sunday School Hall on Tuesday, Tuesday, November 30th. See you there! Mr. and Mrs. Walter Murphy, Mr. and Mrs. Robin Alldrcd visited recently recently with Mr. and Mrs. George Buckley, Bowmanville. Niagara Festival of Lights On Saturday, November 20, 10 persons departing Newcastle were treated royally to a limousine ride to Whitby. There they boarded a bus bound for Niagara Falls, New York. The other bus passengers had been picked up at Brooklin and Port Perry. First stop was Grimsby for bmneh. While dining, a snow squall came and went. Thankful for that! The visibility was nil. About 4:30 p.m. the 40 bus passengers passengers who had checked in at the Radisson Hotel were table to sec the Festival of Lights parade pass by. Everything and everybody in the parade parade is sporting little lights. At six o'clock the main man in the parade - Santa Claus switched on the lights to officially begin the Festival - a spectacle spectacle at the Convention Centre. In the evening seats were reserved in the Convention Center (across the street) for Charlie Pride, Boots Randolph Randolph show which was enjoyed by all. On Sunday morning after buffet breakfast at the hotel, driver Clark and tour guide Barb Porter took the gang shopping. While on this venture we met John and Wilma Scott, Ross and Marion Allin from Newcastle (on another bus) Edna Darling with Peterborough Peterborough and Lennox and Betty Phasey, of Midland. Aileen and Moreton Henderson of Welcome. The afternoon program at the Convention Convention Center had entertainers Tommy Tommy Hunter, Janie Fricke and George Jones. Evening turkey dinner with all the trimmings was served at the Pyrates Table. After a tour of the lights by bus in Niagara Falls, New York, tour guide Barb played the grand piano in the Radisson while some of the group enjoyed singing Christmas songs and carols. Wake-up calls Monday morning had the travellers ready for breakfast, suitcases-packed and in the halls, It was reported that 200 buses arrive for the festival and they certainly were busy lining up to handle the luggage. The lunch area at the Summit Park Mall was certainly a crowded spot, but a little shopping was accomplished accomplished before crossing the border. At the Niagara Parks Greenhouse in Canada, lovely chrysanthemums, all sizes shapes and colours were featured. featured. Flying above in the palms etc. were colourful humming birds. A fun time at early .dinner was very relaxing. relaxing. Darkness allowed the weekenders weekenders to have a bus tour of Niagara Falls, Canada, where thousands of lights and displays sparkle - Disney Motion Lights. The Falls are also illuminated. illuminated. Returning from Whitby to Newcastle Newcastle (again by limousine) were Frank and Eva Hoar, Stan and Kay Powell, Gcrt and Gord Gray, Jack and Hazel Crago, Marguerite Walker and Eva Giles. Forget to mention the Carborundum Carborundum Center in Niagara Falls N.Y. close to the Convention Center. There, on the second floor 15,000 sq. ft. contains the World of Animation - The Legends of Christmas, Toy Train, holiday scenes with scores of animated characters. All in all, a busy but relaxing weekend. St. George's Anglican Church On November 21 at the 11 o'clock service and prior to Communion the Reverend Robert Hartley baptized three children. The infant daughter of Maria and Ralph Bamscy of Newton- villc was christened Christina Lee. Her godparents arc Shelley Thompson Thompson of Oshawa and Andy Bamsey, As her mother, who is of Ukranian descent, was brought up in the Greek Orthodox faith, Christina was also anointed with oil as is customary in that church. The children of Terry Firth and Kim Pearce of Bowmanville were baptized Claire Elizabeth and Damon James. Claire who is five and Damon who is four share godparents, Wendy Pearce Brown, Deborah Radboume, Bill Porter and Glenn Ward. The flowers at the Altar were given given by Helen Lovekin -Anderson (nee Coulson) in memory of the Coulson family. The Sidesmen were Mr. and Mrs. David Sims. On Advent Sunday, November 28, the Reverend "J. Ware will celebrate Holy Communion at eight and Lay Reader Oakley Peters will lead the Service of Morning Prayer at eleven. United Church On Sunday, November 21st, at Newcastle United Church three children children were baptized by Reverend Donald Stiles. Lay Reader was Mr. Veme Rowe. Mr. Francis Jose presented presented a minute for Mission. The Junior Junior Choir sang I Prayed in the Tub and I Will Praise the Lord with my Tambourine. The Sacrament of Holy Baptism was celebrated as Derek Edward Edward James and Dylan Lee Jeffrey, children of Jeffrey and Laura Lee (Perris) Sallows and Emma Rend daughter of David and Heather (Watt) Whitehousc, were received into the church.
