t I l The Canadian Statesman, Bowman ville, Wednesday, November 17,1993 Section Two -Do a Problem in Elliot Park Happenings in Hampton by Michelle Balson -- 697- Now and again you come across information that is too late for printing. printing. I received a phone call from a concerned Mill Street resident early last week. It seems as though I was correct in saying that Elliot Park is "a place for the young and older to enjoy." enjoy." However, man's best friend, the four legged-kind, enjoy the park so much that it relieves itself, we're talking about the kind of dogs that are walked on leashes. That yucky, squishy feeling of stepping in doggie do is not a favourite. Especially for the kids play in every inch of a park. Please, folks, you know who you are, when out walking your pet, scoop the poop. I'm sure you would appreciate it if the shoe was on the other foot. The Hampton/Enniskillcn Pathfinders Pathfinders have been keeping busy. The young women recently took part in a service project with Dr. Rowsell, who resides in Enniskillen. He is part of a team that provides medical relief to less fortunate countries. The Pathfinders Pathfinders were a big help in sorting and packaging bandages for the next mission. mission. The Pathfinders had another learning, hands on experience on Wednesday, November 3rd. Ellen Pokorski, Iva Howard, Corrine Hester Hester and Lindsay Voicy volunteered their services at the Bowmanville Blood Donor Clinic. The Wednesday Euchre Card Party Party results will be short but sweet without the scores. The highest was earned by Ruby Smith. Second was • Doris Schofield. Next was Betty Kuyer. Followed by Meta Swain and Bernice Renton. Ruth Farrow had the Most Lone Hands. Dave Hall was the night's Most Honest Player. Grace McGill won the Special. The Draw winners were Art Compton, Richard Potter, John Kuyer, Don Cochrane, Doris Ferguson and Daisy Bell. As part of-the Guiding program on Thursday, November 11th the Hampton Hampton Guides went to the Robert McLaughlin Gallery. We were met by a lady named Joy who said she was a "docent" which is Greek for teacher. We learned that paintings are done on canvas, which is stretched over a frame. The artists use warm and cold colours.in their art. Artists put light around the faces so people will like them better. We learned about abstract art and hidden pictures in the canvas. We also saw snapshots of Oshawa years ago, one of King Street when it was still a dirt road. The art gallery has a gift shop and a restaurant, it is owned by the public. The Art Gallery is located on Centre Street in Oshawa. This piece was written by second year Guide Ashley Broome. A job well done. Thank you Ashley. The Hampton Community Associ- Hospital Meetings Port Hope and District Hospital will launch its series of community meetings to discuss the future of local local hospital services on November 15 at Port Hope Town Council. "We are pleased to have this opportunity opportunity to begin our community information information forums at town council and we hope the public will attend this session," said Bill Clarke, hospital director. director. Monday's meeting is scheduled scheduled for 7 p.m. at Port Hope Town Hall on Queen Street. In the coming weeks, hospital representatives representatives will meet with a wide variety of community groups to hear their views on local hospital services in the future. "We want to hear from as many people as possible so that we will be in a better position tp make changes locally, rather than have them imposed imposed by the provincial government," Clarke said. To combat provincial spending cuts which arc threatening hospitals across the province, Port Hope hospital hospital is looking at ways to save money and continue to meet local community community needs. Port Hope hospital is already already sharing services with several neighboring hospitals. In the upcoming round of public consultation, the hospital is offering information forums for community groups including local politicians, business, labor, seniors, social services services and emergency service agencies, and other health care providers. Clarke said many groups have expressed expressed interest in hosting a meeting for their members to discuss local hospital services and several forums arc now being planned. "People arc concerned about the future of their health care in this area and we've had a very positive response response to our request to meet with community groups," Clarke said. Community groups interested in participating in the consultation process, process, can call Clarke at 885-6371. I guess a few more people were crossed off Christmas lists. Hampton residents might be interested interested in attending a bazaar being held at the Tyrone Hall on Saturday, November November 27. I heard it through the grapevine that once long time Hampton Hampton residents, Ralph and. Francine Newton, will be there. The Newtons currently reside in Minden. Ralph is well known for his skill and wood working. A group of health conscious folks have started to play badminton on Thursdays. The players meet in the Hampton Junior Public School gymnasium gymnasium from 7-9 p.m. If you enjoy meeting new people and good, clean fun please give Dennis Bennett a call for more information at 263-8007. After admitting in last week's column column that I hadn't finished the chore of raking leaves, I decided it was time to kick bull. With gloves on, rake in hand, I set about the task. Ten bags later it looked better, but was still a ways off. That's enough for one day. Well didn't I wake up the next morning stiff as a board. I guess I haven't used some of those muscles in a while. The following day I said to myself that 30 deciduous trees and shrubs were not going to get the best of me. I raked and bagged 11. Yes, that is 30 bags, one per tree. Then my little one tells me that "the trees are sleeping Mom and the leaves fall to keep their feet warm". I"m really wondering if I like having this many trees. I think I'll dump the remaining six piles in my compost. Until next time folks, stay safe and enjoy life.
