16 The Independent, Canadian Statesman Weekender, Bowmanville, Saturday, August 21,1993 Graduates from Re-training Program Canada Employment - Job Strategy Strategy Unit, Durham Region Social Services, Services, provincial and local government, government, and area employers formed the alliance which implemented four retraining retraining programs presented by the Toronto School of Business, Oshawa and Pickering Campuses, The successful successful outcome of this project saw seventy-two men and women graduate graduate at a ceremony held on August 5th at the Polish Veterans' Hall in Oshawa; most of the graduates have now returned to the workforce. Deborah Nowlan, Toronto School of Business Special Projects Manager conducted the ceremony. MP Mike Breaugh was the keynote speaker. He reported on the positive progress of the Federal Government's training initiatives initiatives and stressed the importance of re-training to meet the current job market demands. Jane Doidge and Suzanne Zwara presented CEC Project-Based Project-Based Training Certificates on behalf of Employment and Immigration Immigration Canada. Diplomas for Long Term Health Care Attendant, Information Information Processing, General Locksmith, Locksmith, and Entrepreneurship were presented by instmctors. Most of the graduates have received related job placements or have started new businesses. businesses. As part of their job training, students students were given the opportunity to gain practical experience working with local employers. Strathaven Life Care Centre, Community Nursing Home in Pickering, Newcastle Health Care Centre, Durham Board Schools, and Ministry of Revenue are among the employer organizations supporting supporting the project in this way. Also in attendance and supporting this community alliance were Whitby Mayor Tom Edwards, as Chairperson - Durham Region Health and Social Services, David Reid, Acting Senior Manager, Ministry of Revenue, and representatives from the Canadian Job Strategies Unit, Employment and Immigration Canada.
