Rookies Ryan Stewart and Steve DeSmedl have combined combined for four goals and seven seven assists in the team's first 12 games of the regular season. season. He appeared appeared in the league maximum maximum five games for the club, including one league and four playoff games. The experience of last year helped him to feel at case when training camp opened this season. "I felt comfortable at the start, but then I went into a little slump. I'm starting to come out of it now and I feel great out on the ice," said DeSmedt, who noted a lack of confidence prolonged his slump. Sunday night against Little Britain, he notched his second goal of the season, a second period tally during a power play. He wasn't the only one suffering from an apparent lack of confidence in the early early stages of the season. The Eagles posted a 2-5-1 record in their first eight games, and looked to be headed for a terrible terrible season. But, in the last four games, the team has played a much better brand of hockey. They have sole possession of third place in the overall standings. And, pending Monday's game in Cobourg, could be within striking distance distance of the Cougars, who hold down second spot. "We've go all our players back, and it is starting to come together for us," said Stewart of the team's four- game winning streak. "We had no time to practice with a full lineup before, but now we do." With all of the injured and suspended players back in the. lineup, including DeSmedt who sat out the first four games for a suspension incurred incurred during the pre-season, the Eagles are beginning to resemble the team they are capable of being. "When you are losing, you get down on each other, and that is what we were doing," doing," said the 17-year-old team if everyone just plays their part." Stewart, a 17-year-old grade 11 student at Bowmanville Bowmanville High School, began this season in the training camp of the Oshawa Lcgionaircs. After being one of the last cuts at his position, right wing, he ventured back home to suit up for the Eagles. He has mixed reactions to the way he has played and the calibre of the other players in the league. "I'vc got to start scoring more. So far, I've missed a lot of good scoring opportunities. opportunities. "I feel a little strange out there sometimes in certain situations. Especially the pressure spots in the last minute minute of a game or when we're two men down." He is expected to be one of the team's playmakers. And, based on his six assists in nine games, he is filling his role. DeSmedt, who is one of the biggest players on the club, is expected to utilize his size. "Mike (coach Noonan) wants me to go up and down the boards and work hard in the comers," he said. "I've got to get the puck out to the guys on my line who can put the puck in the net." Both players arc looking forward to paying dividends for the Eagles as the season Snowden in Oshawa for Contest with Canadians by Kim Gadd Saturday, November 16, found Snowden Electric in North Oshawa where they played the Oshawa Canadians.
