Mrs. Thelma Gilbank introduced introduced our guest for evening, evening, Mrs. Billie Kemp, from St. Paul's United Church, Bowmanville. Our speaker brought an excellent illustrated message message on "Mexico". Telling us a trip to Mexico is a very humbling experience but also very challenging! Her trip was in July and the weather quite rainy and cool and of course country very mountainous and the drivers drivers quite fast! Many children sick and suffering from malnutrition and with very few books, many only attend school to Grade III. Mrs. Kemp was wearing an attractive cross of cloy and closed her presentation with thought "Think Globally Globally but act Locally" to each and every one present. A table display of items, boskets, blankets etc. drew much attention. Speaker was thanked and presented with gift and flowers and lovely lunch served by Unit #1, ladies to close evening. A Special Treat For the very largo congregation congregation in attendance at the Pontypool United Churclv Anniversary on Sunday June 2. the day will long bo remembered! Ponty- pool-Bethany minister welcomed welcomed the crowd and the guest speaker Dr. Robert McLure was introduced. The Dr. and Mrs. McLure had arrived in Bethany Saturday Saturday and were entertained at Mrs. Betty-Lou Preston's home and also at a dinner party in evening. Dwight D. Eisenhower once wrote I'm saving that rocker for the day when I feel as old as I really am." For those of us who had the privilege of meeting Dr. McLure on Sunday morning, he will really never need a rocker, as this gentleman will never grow ola! Tho' close to 91 years of age he attracted the children children from 6 years of age, with his energy, his charm and humor. He gave the children a thrilling display of a long- handlea knife (Parang) used by children and adults in Borneo. He asked the chil dren present if any of them ever became angry? All answered answered yes! The children in Borneo cannot afford to become become angry while carrying these knives, because they would injure each other! Anger Anger will only get anyone of us in trouble. The Dr. told us it took him 6 weeks to travel to China China many years ago and of ' o-da course to-day 22 hours from ny nyv 'lit any airport will get us to anywhere in world! We su anywhere in world! We surely surely live in a shrinking world. We here in Canada have so much, we all must "Share and Shape a new world", to help others with not only gifts of food etc., but help them to help themselves. Following the service, a delicious lunch and a video tape of the entire service were em'oyed by all present. Many of us had the privilege of having lunch with the Dr. and Mrs. McLure and securing securing a well autographed book to take home. Those from our areas in attendance at this special service, Mr. and Mrs. Mac Ransberry, Kirby, Mrs. Hilda Hilda Tamblyn, Mrs. Lloyd Taylor, Mrs. Edith Taylor, Mrs. Jennie Bowins and Mr. and Mrs. O.
