There are five pairs of guests at this Boston motel, but you see only one room. I couldn't begin begin to tell you how this problem problem is worked out. You'll just have to come and see. Each of these pairs has a problem. You'll understand because you'll either have had a similar one yourself, or you'll know somebody who had had one. Sounds serious? serious? Not at all! It's very funny. My publicity partner, Dorothy Kelly, and I interviewed interviewed each of the actors so that we could tell you what they liked about the play. Jessie (Elizabeth Prower) and Frank (Harry Young) have come to see their new grandchild. You saw both of these actors most recently in "Voyage Round My Father." New Members for Lions Club Elizabeth is a guidance counsellor at O'Neill Collegiate Collegiate in Oshawa and Harry is an Itinerant English as a Second Language teacher with the Durham Board. Elizabeth likes the way the dialogue intersects. She finds it hard to memorize this style of writing, but she finds the effect very humorous. humorous. Harry likes- to work with new directors, so is enjoying enjoying being directed by Bob Sheridan. He finds this a well-written, challenging ^ %Ve also have Andy (Ken Brignall) who has come to meet his wife, Ruth, (Jane Vatcher). These characters from Wayside Motor Inn have recently separated but are about to begin the process process of "dividing up." Jane, who lives in Bowmanville, is an independent distributor for an international marketing marketing firm. Her most recent role was that of Zoing in "Put on the Spot." She finds amateur theatre a great creative outlet and has nothing nothing but praise for other members of the cast and for Bob Sheridan. Ken Brignall also lives in Bowmanville and is an industrial mechanic mechanic with GM. For his first role, he played a leopard in "Put on the Spot." He is enjoying enjoying learning all the aspects aspects of amateur theatre. Then there are Vince (John ■ Amesbury) and his son, Mark (Jonathan Goad). Vince has brought Mark to Boston because he wants him to go to Harvard and he has set up an interview for him. John's most recent performance performance with B.D.W. was the lead in "Voyage Round My Father." He is head of the history and theatre arts departments at Clarke High School. He is enjoying being with his former actors. Jonathan's Jonathan's most recent roles were the male lead in "The Visit" produced by the Bowmanville Bowmanville Youth Drama Club and the lead in "Godspell" with B.H.S. He finds his character in this play very different from previous roles he has had and he is enjoying enjoying working with experi enced actors. Ray (Joe Dalrymple) is a travelling salesman and Sharon (Lana Rickard) is a hotel waitress who delivers his lunch. You pan guess what their problem is. Lana is a Bowmanville girl who now lives in Newcastle. She is a real estate agent and an executive distributor for Nu- Skin International. She says that when you're stressed out in the real world, it's fun to be with old friends and play "Let's Pretend." She tells us Mr. Sheridan directed directed her at B.H.S. 28 years ago. She likes being in this play because now she gets to call him "Bob." Joe Dalrymple Dalrymple lives in Bowmanville. He is an Immigration and Refugee Refugee Board Hearings Officer in Toronto. His most recent role was that of Uncle Jocko in "Gypsy." He enjoys playing playing the role of a sleazy travelling travelling salesman -- a part so different from the one he'll be playing after he marries Nancy on July 6. And, finally, there are Sally (Karolyn Shipley) and Phil (Jay Kelly). They are young university students, and if you want to know what their problem is, you'll have to come and see, because because I'm not telling. Karolyn Karolyn lives in Bowmanville. She started a drama group in Lahr, Germany, when her husband was based there. Her first role with us was in "Put on the Spot." She also finds the play a challenge and the B.D.W. a friendly group to work with. Jay describes describes himself as a student in limbo. He plans to return to university in the fall. His most recent role was that of Sir Thomas More in "A Man for All Seasons." He also coproduced coproduced and co-directed "The Visit," both plays were presented by the Bowmanville Bowmanville Youth Drama Club. In The Wayside Motor Inn, the couples don't interact, interact, per say, and yet the lines dovetail. What may be completely serious in the conversation in which it belongs, belongs, may be hilarious in some other couple's conversation. conversation. Now , since I've read the play, I know what that means. But, if you don't, you'll just have to come and see it. Then you'll understand. understand.
