Perhaps we can bring him home a few trophies. trophies. There are two sports worth mentioning that didn't make it into the 1991 Spring and Summer Activity Guide published by the Community Services Services Department. One is new to the area, while the other, with any luck, will be initiated next season for the first time here in Bowmanville. The youth of this town have Harold Hoar of Bow- manville and Gord Carey of Newcastle to thank for keeping their best interests at heart. For the first time ever, a house league lacrosse team will call Bowmanville home. Playing out of the Recreation Complex, the minor minor novice team will compete against teams in the Whitby Minor Lacrosse Association. The Whitby Association is regarded as one of the best-run organizations in Ontario, and kids from Bowmanville will, no doubt, enjoy a summer under their guidance. With a new pro league in the midst of their inaugural inaugural season, lacrosse is gaining popularity throughout the province. Since this area is regarded regarded as one of the hotbeds for the sport, it's nice to see that area kids will be given the opportunity to join the excitement of participating in what, for many of them, will be a new sport. Harold's playing days include a stint with the Peterborough Jr. B's and, as a coach, he has been with the Whitby Association for the past two seasons. seasons. For those parents who are concerned about being tied up for the entire summer, you needn't be. The, house league concludes by the end of June. If there is anyone who has a child who turns 9 years old this year and would like to sign them up, Harold would be more than happy to hear from you. He can be reached at 623-6203. ; Another hard working soul who wants to increase increase the number of activities for the kids in the area is Gord Carey. The Newcastle resident is an ardent football supporter, supporter, and he's looking for kids who want to give the sport a try. y Not unlike the Whitby Lacrosse Association, the Oshawa Hawkeye minor football program is one of' the most respected in the province. They have a' long standing tradition of excellence, and it's the kids who benefit the most from spending a season, with them. ' Kids can't go wrong when they sign up with the- Hawkeyes. The organization goes out of its way to keep costs for the parents to a minimum. The best equipment money can buy is supplied ' for the players and the teams travel by bus to away games. That's a lot more than any hockey organization organization can offer. The season runs from the first of July to Novem-,, ber, and the teams play all their home games at the Civic Fields in Oshawa. If he can get enough support locally, Gord would like nothing netter than to begin a program here in Bowmanville next season. If you would like to speak to Gord about the upcoming upcoming season, give him a call at 987-4423. Both gentlemen deserve our support.
