The bad news is that in January of this year only 17 permits were issued. The good news is it's an increase over the 12 issued in January of 1990. The total value of construction construction activity occurring in the municipality last month totalled $642,800. Residential construction accounted accounted for $335,800 of the total while commercial made up $197,000. The remaining $110,000 consisted of agricultural agricultural construction and Ontario Hydro projects. During the same month last year, the total value of construction weis $144,900. Fire Victims Receive Help The Newcastle fire department department has a new leaflet to hand out to victims of fire. The current policy requires requires the municipality to retain the animals for three days before destroying them or selling them for research. The councillors wanted to examine the possibility of changing that period to five days.
