Bowmanville Toastmasters Toastmasters were enriched in early August when the benefits of belonging to an international international organization were demonstrated demonstrated in the persons of toastmaster guests from Sydney, Australia. Roy and Helen Ashpole, both Toastmasters, Toastmasters, and their daughter and son-in-law Terrie and Kel Markland, paid a visit to our club which hosted a potluck supper for the Area to celebrate their presence. Bowmanville Toastmaster President Nancy Barnes and her husband, Gord, opened their home to the gathering and were personal hosts to the Ashpole party during their stay here. TM Barnes attended the International Convention last year in California and there, along with TM Joan Winter and TM Egon Pederson Pederson of Oshawa Toastmasters, Toastmasters, became friendly with the Ashpoles. Now it's International International Convention time again, this time in Dallas, Texas, and the Ashpoles are headed in that direction and taking the opportunity to visit Toastmaster friends en- route. For our Area potluck party party numerous guests swelled the ranks of local members. Special guests from District ,60 included Harold Usher and Bob Porter. Among those attending from the Oshawa Toastmaster Club were club president TM Wayne Norbratten and his wife TM Pam Norbratten. The Peterborough .Club, newly transferred to our area, was well represented with club president TM Fred Rapson and his wife leading an enthusiastic group. Since this was a social occasion, occasion, Toastmasters concentrated concentrated on things they do well - eating and having fun. In keeping with being Toastmasters, we held a "Tall Tales Contest." Six prevaricators entertained and convinced (?) the audience audience of their authenticity and veracity. We heard a wide range of tales - western western winds absconding with a washtub-sized cooking ket tle, and a tale of a worm of voracious appetite and infinite infinite girth which was responsible responsible for the creation (among other things) of the St. Lawrence Lawrence and the Ottawa Rivers. Rivers. TM Sher Leetooze, creator creator of the energetic and ravenous worm, was selected selected as the best Teller of Tall tales and won the "Bull" Trophy. Liars Club take note. Starting on September 4, 1990, our meetings will be held in the upper parish hall at St. John's Anglican Church, Temperance Street at Church.
