When game time arrived, only seven players had signed the sheet. Westly Thompson started off the scoring in the first when Kevin Martin and John Ashton combined to set up the play. Steve Sargent ed to managed to hold the other team off the sheet until late in thé period when they tied the score. We started to drag our heals a little in the second second but with Shawn Wolfe and Chris Hart playing most of the game on defence, we onl^ allowed two goals. he break between the second and the third did us no good. Everyone was tired ana starting to stiffen up. The other team managed four more goals, each one fought for, in the third to make the final score 7-1. Wednesday, Children's Arena,, same seven, game two. After the complimentary complimentary toilet-paper was handed handed out by assistant coach Jeff Dart, it was up the stairs and on to the ice. You can imagine the looks in the stands when the seven Deli boys came out on the ice and the other team had eighteen. eighteen. It was obvious the other coach was going for broke, and wanted to heat us by a big score. Several of his players saw no ice time in the first two periods au he kept his big line on the ice. He did look a little bewildered bewildered at the end of the second second when the score was only 2-0, and our goalie was still standing, looking for more. Third period action was end to end as the Deli boys stayed with the other team, who despite the other coach again sitting out players, managed only two. Our bright spot came when Kevin Kevin Martin dug the puck out of the corner, gave it to Chris Hart who relayed it to Larry MacDonald, in full flight, who put it upstairs to sni break the shutout. The final score was 4-1 with one player getting all the goals lor the other team. In the third game, we faced elimination find again the same seven showed. By this time the team was given given a nick name "the seven survivors." The headline on the Oshawa Times sports page said a lot "Seven Survivors» did well", but the remark by Eric Wesslby, sports editor, covers the boys play in the tournament and the final game, "But despite being walloped 14-0 by St. Marks of the O.C.H.L., Dykstra's won the admiration of anyone anyone who watched them play. First period action had Woodview getting on the board early on a goal by Jeff Fyfe, that ended the scoring for the remainder of the first period. Second period was fast two-way hockey with lots of chances for both teams. Early Early in the second, Danny MacDonald tied the game-at one all.
