The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, March 28,1990 19 Plans Resource Centre by Andrea Adair A Newcastle Village resident resident is trying to launch a resource resource centre for.families in the village. Corinne Allin said'a centre centre "would give parents and caregivers a chance to meet., others and get a break while the children play." She. explained that she and a group of other mothers mothers started a group called Mom's Morning. Meeting once a week, mothers got a break from their children but were also close by when the children needed them. The group grew from nine to 20 in over two months and those attending started thinking about ways in which they could accommodate accommodate more growth. The idea of a resource centre came to mind, Mrs. Allin said, after visiting the YWCA's Pace Centre in Oshawa. "It was wonderful," she said. "Parents could access information information while their children children were cared for upstairs." upstairs." Those who saw the Pace Centre with her agreed that something similar to it was needed in Newcastle Village. Mrs. Allin has done some legwork into organizing the project and is holding a meeting next Monday night, April 2, from 7:30 - 9 p.m. for people who may be interested interested in helping establish the resource centre. She has spoken with organizations organizations such as Durham House Child and Family Centre and the Health Unit and she says they would gladly add their services to the centre. A toy library and speakers speakers for parents are just a few of the features the centre could provide. A location for the centre hasn't been decided yet but Mrs. Allin said: "If we can get support for it from peo ple we may be able to get space."
