Intended for last week The veiy warm days and bright sunshine of last week brought spring to people and nature alike. We opened the door to feel balmy breezes and hear the song of cardinals, cardinals, purple finches, robins, kildeer, and honking of geese. A neat round hole in the heap of ground piled up by the chipmunk last fall, snowed where he had come out to sit on his doorstep ... less enjoyable were the numbers numbers of cluster flies which crawled out from their winter winter sleep, to buzz around the windows and annoy people. Like most creeks, Port Britain Britain creek overflowed its banks and left chunks of ice on the roadway. By now, readers of this column will know there was no ice fishing on Rice lake. Even proof reading of last week's column didn't catch the slip which put Rice lake where it should have read Lake Simcoe. With all the News and Views From Yelverton JtJy Harvey Malcolm Yelverton Sunday morning morning church service was attended attended by the usual bakers dozen (or Dirty dozen) of loyal loyal supporters. Contributing to the musical service were two lovely instrumental duets on piano and electric organ by Mr. Jack Gordon and Linda Pfoh which were much enjoyed by the few in attendance. Mrs. Marleah Burton and Art Rowan assisted assisted with scripture lessons, lessons, readings, etc. We were sorry to learn of the sudden passing of Mr. Bruce Mount)oy of Black- stock; Bruce attended a higher grade in Blackstock High School in the same era as did we many long years ago. Bruce was- always a quiet, unassuming chap.. Sympathy to those who mourn his passing. A number of local ladies attended an Aloette party on Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Pamela Carmichael Carmichael west of Lotus. In the near future as they slap on the various facial products, there won't be a wrinkle in sight ???! There must: tie an O.P.P. officer somewhere wearing a pretty red face atop her blue serge suit. Our Yelverton road had a little extra excitement excitement this past week when an O.P.P. cruiser left the road on a curve north of / our residence, necessitating a tow truck to rescue the cruiser from the field where it reposed "hors-de-combat". Wonder if he charged himself himself and issued a ticket for careless driving and speeding? speeding? Won't hold our 'breath'. rain and sunshine it would seem ice fishing for 1990 is over.
