i 4 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, November 8,1989 Busy Summer for Kinette Club Beehive Rebekah's New Officers Installed in Their Positions Well, the summer is over and the Great Pine Ridge Kinetics have been very busy. On Saturday, July 15, Kinette Sam Clark and her husband. Kin Steve welcomed welcomed tne arrival of their first child, a son, William George. Later in the day, we helped the Kinsmen host a very successful "Orono Street Dance." Though we were kept busy selling beef on a bun, hot dogs and popcorn, popcorn, fun was had by all in attendance. A total of 40 service service hours were done. August 4-7 was Kin Kamp. Here we joined the Kinsmen and our children for a weekend of socializing. Each evening we sat around the campfire and during the day, the children had organized organized games which gave them the opportunity to compete with each other and find and win prizes. August 12, with the help of a number of non Kinetics, we served dinner at the wedding wedding of Debbie Abramoff and Paul Armstrong. We wish this couple many years of wedded bliss. A total of 100 service hours were collected. Thank you to all who helped make this fund raiser sucn a success. September began with an Executive Corn Roast on the 1st and a joint general meeting meeting with the Kinsmen on the 5th. Our first executive was held on the 6th with much business. The 15th saw our first Youth Dance of the Year where 150 students attended. attended. It was held in the gym of St. Francis of Assisi school . in Newcastle and was open to all students in Grades 6,7, and 8. Our second dance was October 27 at which time the students had a chance to dress up. If they came dressed up they were charged $2.00 entrance fee compared to the $3.00 fee if they came as they were. Discretion Discretion of the Doorperson. The next dance will be held on January 5, 1990. Goodies will be sold for a reasonable price and music is supplied by Music by Randy. "Once itrs in your 'ood, it's hard to give up." But, give it up she" did when she realized that the business was going to take off. "I was very well received when I started and I have become even busier since I broadened my clientele. . The clientele now includes includes businessmen, fathers of the bride and her window washer. "He comes in for a manicure to get out the dirt that accumulates under his nails," explains Ruth. She recently fulfilled a dream that she had long held when her employees hired a limousine lor her birthday. "I couldn't believe it when this big, white limo pulled up in front of the store. They told me, there's your limo - one of your dreams come true." Going first-class is nothing nothing new to Ruth. She has a way of attracting first class things to her. She had another another limo ride when she and two friends decided to take off for a weekend of high living in Atlantic City. "Trie limo came complete with bottles of champagne to and from the airport, Ru- thie says with a little hint of mischief in her eyes and a smile on her face. Ruth is living proof that a positive outlook is necessary to keep one young. It is hard to believe that this slim, high-energy, beautifully- groomed woman could be in her forties, but she says she is, so I have to believe her. She says there is very little that she hasn't done and that nearly all of her goals in life have been realized. "I just hope that I won't get bored now." she fervently states. "I can't stand being bored." Ruth will never be bored. Her salon is comfortably busy. The services offered range from natural manicures manicures to the outre creative "nail art" nails and the 14 carat gold nails she sports herself. She also provides pedicures and spot or entire body waxing. "Life is fun and you should enjoy it." she says as ■she gets up to meet another client. "I like my clients to feel a one-on-one rapport with me." Her clients find that good advice is part of the bargain whenever Ruth does tneir nails. They talk to her about themselves and their problems. problems. "They need someone to talk to, and they know that the word stops here," she adds confidentially. She has watched families grow and, because she is so close to them, she can almost consider consider them her own. Ruth Nunn is a joy to talk to and by the time you read this, my nails will be sporting a natural manicure and I will be able to struggle into pantyhose without worrying worrying about a snag, from a jagged edge or hangnail. I'm looking forward to it, as I'm sure all her clients do, with the expectation of a professional professional job performed in a fun atmosphere. Ruth, you're a get-down- and-boogie kind of gal.
