22 The Canadian Statesman, Bowman ville, August 30,1989 Glad and Dahlia Show Winners The annual Durham Region Region Gladiolus and Dahlia show was held at the Canadian Canadian Legion Hall in Bow- manville on Saturday, August August 12, 1989. Although the weather has been hot and dry for most of the summer, the quality of the 242 glads shown was very high. The number of exhibits was down, particularly in the arrangement arrangement classes, but everyone everyone was impressed with the variety. The youngest exhibitor was Miss Christy Burnett, age 4, who took two firsts in the youth class for exhibitors exhibitors under 12. Judges for the day commented commented on the quality of the blooms shown and the high calibre of the arrangements. Judges were; Ms. M. McHolm, arrangements and Dahlias, Mr. G. Lake, all open spikes, Mr. G. Wragg, President of the Canadian Gladiolus Society, the Amateur Amateur and Youth Classes and Mr. J. Laundry, the Novice Classes. The major prize winners were: The George Gummer Trophy Trophy for Grand Champion Gladiolus - Jack Laundiy with Icecap. The Wragg Trophy for Reserve Champion - Alex MacKenzie with seedling 80- 04-30. The Club Vase and Plaque for Best Decorative vase or basket - Dr. Malcolm McDonald. The Vera Baker Memorial Memorial Trophy for Best Blue Spike - Sam VanCamp with Azure Sky. The Gladys Cameron Memorial Memorial Trophy for most outstanding outstanding Arrangement-Sher Leetooze with Remember Yesterday. The People's Choice Award - Gordon Wragg with a basket of Award. Mrs. Jose Memorial for best 300 sized glad-Gordon Wragg with Fiesta. The Youth Silver Tray Trophy for best arrangement arrangement in the youth classes - Charlynne Tillcock with Three's Company.
