The proper credit for 2 goals and 1 assist assist goes to Laura Abrams who joined us from the Junior Junior girls team. Good work, Laura and thanks for your help and sorry for the goof! Tues. Mar. 14th Playoff-Finals Baltimore 1 vs Bowmanville 3 On Tuesday, March 14th the Bell girls hosted a disgruntled disgruntled Baltimore group in the 1st game of a best 2 of 3 series. The game was close as the 1st period went scoreless. scoreless. In the 2nd period the teams exchanged 1 goal each. Joanna Hall lit the scoreboard first at 9:50 on an unassisted effort. Penny Stevenson then retaliated for Baltimore at 6:07. At 7:45 of the 3rd period, An- nissa Aus sent Joanna Hall up the ice with a nice pass and Joanna left the sprawling sprawling Baltimore defence behind behind as she made no mistake mistake in converting this nice play into a goal. It was following this event that all "H" broke loose! The Baltimore girls and their coaches "Lost it" by disagreeing with the chaps in the stripes. 14 minutes minutes in penalties in the 3rd period aid them in. With just 3:43 remaining in the game, Tammy McMullen poured salt on the wound and added the insurance that Bell needed with a totally totally awesome shot from a difficult angle. Tammy's amazing goal was the result of a pass from point person Cynthia Hilliara. Way to go, team! Way to keep your cool! Sunday, Mar. 19th Bowmanville 2 vs Baltimore 3 In game #2 of this best of 3 series the Bell bunch did not perform up to par due to a severe case of nerves and intimidation. Both Bell tallies tallies were notched by Joanna Hall. The first with 9 seconds seconds remaining in the 1st period, and the second at 4:18 of the 2nd period, with the assistance of Tammy Fowler. Happy! Don't worry - Be Tues. Mar. 21st. Baltimore 0 vs Bowmanville 2 The 3rd and final game of the series found the Bell Toros Toros a little more relaxed and thinking hockey as a team. And that is exactly how they played - as a team. What a great effort! Everyone concerned concerned should feel proud of their accomplishments. Tina Millson again deserves deserves a round of applause for her great performance between the pipes. Not only did she register her 8th shutout of tne season, she racked up a 91% save average, average, allowing only 65 goals out of approximately 685 shots. Her goals against average average in 35 games is 1.81. Holy Moly - What a goalie! At the other end of the ice it was Joanna Hall who found the mark at 5:22 of the 1st period with the help of Annissa Aus to give the Bell gals a 1-0 lead. A seesaw seesaw battle ensued between the two blue lines from that point on with very few scoring scoring opportunities. Finally at the 7:00 minute mark of the 3rd period. Saturday, March 18 dawned to find the Darlington Darlington Auto Atom Selects journeying journeying to Thornhill for the 12th Annual Thornhill Sherwood Sherwood Select Hockey Tournament. Tournament. If the weather was an omen of things to come it surely proved to be so very wrong as the trip up was through some of the worst weather that Mother Nature has thrown at us all winter, what with 3 to 4 inches of the white stuff and a little freezing rain mixed in to make the drive up interesting, interesting, to say the least. But, that's another story and on to the one at hand. The 8:00 game pitted Darlington Auto against our familiar rivals from Uxbridge Uxbridge and from the opening face-off till the final buzzer it was clear the boys were here to make the trip all worthwhile as it was dominated dominated irom start to finish by Bowmanville. One of our new additions to the team, Travis Laugh- lin, the other being Jason Colder, got things off to a flying start, hitting the twine at the 6:08 mark of the first, assisted by Les McCrory and Cameron Miller. Miller. Les then came back with one of his own with 1:48 left in the first, assisted by Jeff Hughes. Turning to the second period, period, Les McCrory hit for another another one unassisted for Darlington Auto to go up 3-0 and bring us to the third period period which, again, was all Bowmanville's. Leading off the scoring parade in the period was David David Drummond assisted by Les McCrory and Jason Colder. Next up was our speedster Darrin Allen finishing finishing off a beautiful two- way passing play from Greg Knox and Ryan Brannigan. Then, with Les ringing one off the post, Jason Colder stuffed in the rebound also drawing an assist from Kyle Shackleton, who incidentally incidentally played one of his strongest strongest games ■ of the season. This closed out all the scoring scoring on the game which ended ended 6-0 for Darlington Auto. Mention should be made at this time to our goal tending tending tandem of Clayton Ren- dell and Stevie Sargent who not only both shared in the shut-out but provided us with solid goaltending throughout the tournament. When the votes were cast by the opposing coaches for M.V.P. Les McCroiy skated to centre ice to accept the honor for the "Darlington Auto squad. Well done Les, well done Bowmanville. Next up for a 2 p.m. game was a strong team from Etobicoke but, in what proved to be the closest, and the most exciting game for us on the day, ana on the tournament Darlington Auto prevailed by a score of 4-3. Picking up the first period period action, Peter Schoep drew first blood in the game at the 9:07 mark to open the scoring but less than 30 seconds seconds later Etobicoke countered countered with one of their own, then drew ahead 2-1 at the 6:20 mark. With the first period period drawing to a close, 1:07 to be precise, Jason Colder pulled us even at 2-2, assisted assisted by Les McCrory. Darlington Auto then went up by one at the 6:38 Ë of int arryl Cook the tri the second with erman assists going to Jeff Hughes and Arron Stoker. But like two heavyweights going toe to toe, Etobicoke countered 15 seconds later to carry us into the third period knotted at three a piece. Jeff Hughes potted the next marker at 7:48 of the third, then it was nail biting time as it went down to the final two minutes. Etobicoke Ê ulled their goalie but the •arlington Auto team just bore down a little harder and, in fact had a beautiful chance to ice the game on a breakaway but drew a penalty penalty from Etobicoke to nulify any thoughts that Etobicoke had of drawing a tie from us. Final score was 4-3 for the Darlington Auto Selects with Jeff Hughes carting off the M.V.P. honors for our side. Only one thing stood between between Darlington Auto and advancement to the final, Scarboro Malvern, but it was soon evident that our fears were unfounded. The first period saw Darlington Auto hit for two markers. The first was a nice three- on-one breakout with Jeff Hughes capping off the play with a nice deke on the Scarboro Scarboro goalie, assists going to Peter Schoep ana Greg Knox. Les McCrory tallied the second score with Darren Darren Alin drawing the assist. Turning to the 2nd period, period, Bowmanville increased the margin to three goals at the 8:27 mark when Peter Schoep cut in from the wing to backhand one in, unassisted. unassisted. Scarboro got on the board when they knocked down a high clearing pass and slammed it in, time of the goal 5:34. But Peter Schoep, notched his second of the game less than a minute minute later. David Drummond earning the assist to keep a three goal head. Scarboro then replied about two and one half minutes from the end of the 2nd to close out the scoring in 2nd with the scoreboard reading 4-2 for Bowmanville. Darlington Auto resumed a three goal difference when Les McCrory got his second, of the match with Darren Alin drawing an assist, time of the goal 8:12. This tally was answered at the 5:25 mark by Scarboro but this was to be "all she wrote" for the Scarboro Malvern Malvern team, as Peter Schoep capped off all the scoring in the game at the 4:30 mark when he completed his hat trick on a pass out from the corner from Greg Knox. Peter Schoep earned M.V.P. honors in this match which ended 6-3 for Darlington Darlington Auto. Now, the boys took dead aim at their hosts of the tournament, Thornhill, as they looked forward with eager anticipation to the following following days game. Sunday, March 19 dawned bright and sunny which was a vast improvement improvement over the previous weather the day before. Anyhow, Anyhow, the outlobk for the Darlington Darlington Auto Selects was indeed indeed bright and sunny for when the smoke had cleared from this shootout the Bowmanville Bowmanville squad had captured captured the banner from the- Atom division of the Thornhill Thornhill Sherwood Selects Tournament Tournament with a convincing 7- 3 score. Highlights of this game featured a 2-goal 1 assist •performance from game M.V.P. Travis Laughlin. Other scores and assists' were, Peter Schoep 2 goals, Jeff Hughes 1 goal 1 assist, Ryan Brannigan 1 goal 1 assist, assist, Darryl Cook 1 goal, Darren Alin 2 assists and Arron Stoker 1 assist.
