Downey, conducted a short business meeting. Mrs. A. Ayre rendered two delightful solos, accompanied accompanied by Mi's. J. Phillips. Mrs. Joan Appleton showed her slides with very informative information about her recent trip to Baffin Baffin Island and Greenland. -- Meeting closed with "God Save The Queen". Last weekend Cecil and Marie Gibson along with Marie's brother Elwood Tripp attended the fiftieth wedding anniversary Open House in honour of Luolla and Percy Walters of Oshawa. Ann and Peter Vanderhcul also attended this happy event. The honoured bride of fifty years is Marie and Elwood's sister. Better health is wished for Mrs. Lcanne Lang of Mason Street who is in a Toronto Hospital. A speedy recovery is hoped for you Leanne. Most of the University and College College students were able to return home - bet Mom's cooking never tasted as good as did this weekend after either cooking for yourself or else having residence food for several weeks. Sympathy is extended to Debbie Debbie and Brad Curie, Tara and Meaghan on the loss of their son and brother Robert. Robert put up a great fight against a disease for a long time. The funeral service service for this likeable young boy was held in the United Church on Friday afternoon. The community community extends sympathetic thoughts to all the family. On Saturday evening David and Lois Wotten's wedding dance was held in Nestleton Hall with Herb Vine and his group providing the music. Congratulations to Dave and Lois who were married quietly quietly in June. Women's Institute by Helen Bradburn, P.R.O. The W.I. meeting of October 5 opened by singing the W.I. Ode and Repeating the Mary Stewart Collect. Jean Adams taking thé Presidents chair, introduced Kathleen Dorrell, a home girl who didn't need much introduction. She taught Special Education at Cartwright Central Public School for several years before recently retiring. Kathleen gave an excellent excellent paper , on that subject, answering questions. Pat Sleep thanked her for her informative talk. Minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted. The resolution was read for the final time. Fun Fair will be held at Solina Hall on October 18. The large crowd was treated to an excellent programme programme which was emceed by Harvey Graham in his usual entertaining manner. The evening evening began with Herb Vine and Lanna Malcolm singing several well received songs. In the 12 years and under Jessica Weiler won 1st place with Danny Mundell taking second. In the 13-18 years class first place was won by Jay Jay Weiler followed by Shawn Mundell and Mark Junkin: Maurice Montgomery delighted the audience with his step dancing. dancing. On October 6, the president of 4-H1 opened their second meeting with the club pledge followed by the roll call. After several suggestions suggestions we decided on the name "Blackstock Butchers". We will be using red binders for this club. After a discussion of various meats and their cost, we made a delicious meal of Oriental Vegetable Beef Stir Fry. On Sunday, October 16, 517 participants walked, jogged and trotted in the 11th Annual Durham College-United College-United Way Turkey Trot. , Mike King, President of the Oshawa-Whitby- Newcastle United Way Campaign, presented the medals to the winners of the men's and women's 10 km races. Finishing in the top three places in the men's cat egory were: Kevin Dillon of Oshawa (32:52), David McGillivray of Peterborough Peterborough (32:57), Dale Irwin of Oshawa (33:02). Sandra Shearer of Fraserville (43:24), Barb Dillon of Oshawa (43:49), and Robin Rivers of Oshawa (48:52) finished first, second and third, respectively, in the women's division. The elementary i school winners in the boy's 5 km category were: Ian Faulkner of Oshawa (16:03), Greg Smith of Whitby (17:31), and Blair Hedderson of Whitby (17:43).
