Under the scoring leadership of Brian Heard's hat-trick, Bowmanville Bowmanville played the type of hockey hockey that is going to take the Eagles far into the play-offs., Play-off style performances came from Shawn Rekker and Pierre St. Amand with 3 assists each and Murray Henderson with 2 goals. David Smith started in net, but after doing the splits in the first minute of play, he f lulled a muscle and had to eave the game. Webster came on to play well and ' rode a shutout well into the third period. Bowmanville , gave the puck up 21 times in the first period and ended the period 2-0 with goals from Henderson and Steve Terry. Play in the second period cut the give-aways in naif and netted 4 goals to end the period 6-0. After Bowmanville took the lead 8- 0 referee Frank Robinson called an unfair roughing call on Shawn Rekker that allowed Lindsay.to break Webster's shutout. The final score of the game 10 ?. Bowmanville. Bowmanville. Bowmanville starts the first game of the play-off next Sunday against Ajax. Unfortunately, the round- robin eliminates any advantage advantage the Eagles gained during during the regular season. It also accents the need for a new regular and post season schedule. The OHA should adopt a 34 game season. This season would see the top 5 teams from the north and south division playing 3 home and home series. The remaining 10 games of the regular season would be played against the remaining remaining 5 teams. Upon the completion completion of thq season and the elimination of the bottom 2 teams, the top team would play their choice of the remaining remaining 8 teams and so on. This system would create more competitive games and league. A more competitive league would draw more . fans and create more gate receipts, far outweighing any extra costs. The greatest result would be better hockey hockey and more entertainment. But until the OHA makes changes, the entertainment "starts with Ajax playing in Bowmanville Sunday at 7:30. Pee Wee Selects Are A Finalists On the weekend of January January 23 and 24 the I.O.O.F. Peewee Selects travelled to Brantford to compete in the Annual Tournament of Friends. The I.O.O.F. Selects started off slowly and fell behind in the first period. But in the seond 'they started to pick up the pace and by the third period they started to fly and left Parkdale wondering what had happened, with Bowmanville Bowmanville skating away, with a 6 to 1 win. This set the stage for the Tournament Championship to be played on Sunday at the Civic Centre against Hamilton Hamilton Dofasco Selects. The I.O.O.F. Peewees started off very slowly and fell behind 2 to 0 by the end of the second period and it looked like Bowmanville was finished but the team rallied in the third period and scored two goals with the tying goal coming at the 17 seond mark. This set the stage for overtime and in an exciting overtime period nobody scored so Dofasco was awarded the Championship because they had the first shot on net in the overtime period. If Bowmanville goes all the way to the All-Ontario Finals, there could be more than 40 post season games. So if you're ringing a bell, do it softly, there might be a lot of clanging to be done. Unfortunately, the round-robin eliminates any advantage the Eagles gained during the regular season. It also accents the need for a new regular and post season schedule.
