At the general purpose committee meeting on Monday,. Monday,. October 5, councillors again looked at a proposal fora 196semi-detached unit subdivision', north of Concession Concession Street and east of Liberty Street. "I'm not strongly opposed to semi-detached homes," said Councillor Diane Hamre. But she explained that if the subdivision had all one type of housing it would "create a ghetto". "I'm surprised that you. would propose a whole subdivision subdivision (of one type of housing) in this day and age," she told planner Jamie Bennett, who was representing the applicant, Schickedanz Bros. Ltd. Echoing those thoughts were a land owner from Whitby, and several residents. residents. Dwight Chizen, who owns land to the north of the proposed subdivision with his father, Martin, told councillors that he too was planning to one day develop his land. "Our goal is to develop our land as single family dwellings," he told councillors. councillors. He stressed that the subdivision subdivision needed a better mix of housing, at least along the northern part that borders his property. He further explained how the area|school Lord Elgin Public Schopl, could only handle 75 more students!
