The Scugog Chamber of Commerce went all out to make the Festival interesting and fun for all age groups. Everyone "got into the swing of things" with colourful costumes...decorated stores...exotic foods and drink in keeping with the Bahamas theme. There were many exciting things to do...and see... it sure was fun I The enthused crowd enjoyed the many events immensely I The hard working committee is to be congratulated for a great effort! Nestleton Presbyterian Church The regular 10 a.m. service on Sunday morning was conducted by Miss Susan Swann, in the absence of Rev. F. Swann who is on holidays. Mrs. Shirley Scott played for the hymns. The Scripture reading was Matthew 14: verses 22-32, and the sermon was based on the story of Peter walking on the water in the storm. Prayers were offered for elder Mr. George Scott who is convalescing convalescing in Centenary Hospital. Nestleton United Cherch With Arthur k Barb Weir and family greeting at the door at Nestleton United, the service was held in the S.S. Room, with a very good attendance. Much cooler downstairs and the service was kept short. Rev. Dale Davis spoke on, "Why Come To Church?" based on Scripture portions from Nehemiah and I Corinthians. In the choir...Janice & Leslie MacKenzie sang a duet. Gwen Malcolm organist. Friday, August 14, at 5:30 p.m. a church Auction Sale at Nestleton United Church is being planned. The church will be open on Thursday, August 13, to let people drop off items for the Auction. The UCW will have a bake table. A telephone committee committee will call members of the congregation congregation to see if they have something to donate. Wedding Anniversary Attended Last weekend Norm k Bernice Mairs of Nestleton, attended the 45th Wedding Anniversary of Carman Carman k Amy Kent of Sundridge. The celebration was held at the honoured couple's cottage at Lake Bernard. Relatives were present from Saskatchewan and other western points as well as local friends. A good round of visiting and reminiscing was enjoyed..then a tasty picnic was partaken of...later the reception was held with more delicious food and many lovely gifts were received by the couple. The brother of the bride entertained with poetry and several songs in honour of the occasion...then the guests were invited to join in...and sang to end a very happy anniversary. Our "Best Wishes" to the honoured couple couple for many more joyous celebrations! s Caesarea Commenlty Church A good service with a nice congregation congregation at the Caesarea Church. Student Teo Hoekstra conducted the service with Dan Pugh Jr. reading the Scripture and Arden Maschke leading the Responsive reading. Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford presented a fine message on "How To Make The Right Decisions" from the book of Ruth. Ch. 1: 16. Marjorie Pugh was in charge of the children's church during the service. Regatta News Keep in mind the Lake Scugog An nual Regatta will be held on the Civic Holiday weekend - August 1, 2 and 3. This will be the 55th year to be held in Caesarea..and there is to be many activities for all ages...a weekend for folks to really enjoy themselves. Start making plans now for this major 3 day event for Caesarea. For instance: The children's parade is on Saturday, August 1, starting from the Fire Hall at 10 a.m. so - start lining up your costumes for this exciting event now..so you won't miss out! Another thing to remember: The Caesarea Golf Tournament to be held July 25 at Sunnybrae Golf Course -1 mile south of Port Perry. Registration at 8:30 a.m. sharp. Student Job Centre Sets New Records by Jeff Hubbell The Bowmanville branch of the Canada Employment Centre for Students has been having a "banner year" in the words of Student Student Placement Officer Jeff Simser. "It's been great. I think I've been breaking records for student placements here," he said "It's just been amazing." The Canada Student Employment Employment Centre is designed designed to assist high school and college students find summer employment. This year, most students who register register with the Centre haven't had to wait long before before an employer calls them. Jobs have ranged from picking raspberries to construction construction and office work, and for the most part, employers employers have been pleased with the students who have been working for them.
