'i Kool Bantams Win Over Oshawa Park On Fri., Nov. 14, Kool Enterprise Bantams played Baker Park, an Oshawa Park League team, at Darlington' and skated to a hard fought 5-3 victory. Kool opened the scoring with two goals early in the first period by Richard Smit from Scott Selleck and Mike Colbourne and the second by Kevin Jay who stuffed in a pass-out from Steve Bizi. Oshawa tied the score 2-2 in the second only to have Kevin score his second in exactly the same fashion as his first, this time from Steve Bizi and Richard MacCheyne. Oshawa again tied the score late in the third only to see Kool win the game when Richard MacCheyne's low hard shot found the corner of the Oshawa net with 34 seconds remaining. Mike Colbourne had made the good play at the blue line to keep the puck in and set up Richard for the winner. With one second remaining, Richard MacCheyne set up Steve Bizi who blasted a long shot into the top corner of the net to end the scoring and the game which had featured good team play and hart hitting by Kool in spite of the attempted intimidation by the larger Oshawa players. Fine hits on good clean plays were recorded by several players notably Andrew Day with two TIRE SALES INC. 676-1220 TRISUN, Kin. belt RADIAL 781 ALL SEASON 296 Dean Ave- PEACOCK LUMBER LTD. Sat., Nov. 15 was Kool's second meeting with McGregors and resulted in Kool's second win. With both teams short handed, but McGregors more so, all players saw plenty of action. McGregors opened the scoring late in the first on a hard shot from a difficult angle. Following that goal Kool assumed command of the game, pressing the undernamed McGregor team into their own zone for longer and longer periods. The results of this continuous pressure and fine team play were four unanswered goals by Kool. Scott Sellect got Kool even when he tapped in a perfect pass-out from Steve Bizi. Chris Gordon had made a good play at the blue line to start the play and Scott was in exactly the right place to finish it. Richard MacCheyne scored the winner finishing off a three way passing play as Bryan James held the puck in at the point and passed to Kevin Jay in the slot, Kevin in turn set up Richard. Steve Bizi scored from Scott Selleck when he knocked the puck from the goaltender's grasp and into the net. Richard Smit scored on a breakaway only to see it called back because of the line change buzzer. Billy MacIntyre, playing defense for the first time in over a year, was flying in this game and made several fine plays one of which was the final goal of the game late in the third. Scott Selleck earned an assist on Billy's goal to round out a 3 point game, Dave Killens played very well in both games, holding Kool in when we sagged early in the second period of the first game and until we got rolling in the second game. Keep up the good work, Dave! The Bowmanville Canadian Tire Major Atoms journeyed to Port Perry to take on that centre's Atom club and skated away to a hard-earned 3-1 victory. The last time these two clubs met, "Port" won by a 3-0 score. - Bowmanville's "Chuck" Carr sent the Toros into the lead on an unassisted play at the 3:39 mark of the opening period. Less than two minutes later, Richard Bateman scored the eventual game- winner, again unassisted. With 1:23 showing on the clock in the opening period, the host club picked up their lone goal. The Toros' team Captain Steve Deblois scored the third goal, the assist going to Doug Parkin. Steve Oke was in goal and made some big saves to ' earn a wèll-deServed Victory. He was afforded some excellent protection by his defencemen ana the wingers were back-checking with fierce determination. Blast Lindsay 9-0 The Canadian Tire Atoms travelled to Lindsay on Saturday evening and handed the host club a 9-0 thrashing. Ryan Robinson scored the Dennis Pizza Toros Keep Wheels Turning The Novice Toros are still playing very well this season. They continue their hectic schedule with games in Stouffville, Darlington, Belleville Belleville and Port Hope. At Darlington, they split with Port Perry, winning the regular season game 6-4 and losing the exhibition game 7-4. At Stouffville, they tied 1-1 for their second consecutive tie. with this team. At Belleville, they lost 5-3 against a double AA squad and at Port Hope they skated to a 8-1 victory. In the statistics of these games, Jason Jackman led the team with 8 goals, 2 assists followed by Chris Heino 4 goals, 3 assists, Jason Jeffreys 3 goals, 3 assists, Paul Goff 3 goals, 2 assists, Andrew Ferguson 1 goal, 3 assists, Derek Lange 1 goal, 1 assist, Mike deBlois 2 assists, and single assists by Ian Taggert, Mark McCarthy, and Paul Lavallee. All other Toro players deserved numerous assists on goals but the referees only seem to award assists at the end of the play and not at the start. Our goalies Byron Harnum and Ryan Stainton continue to display the finesse needed to keep this Toro team in many tight games. The Toros play in the Port Hope tournament next weekend and lets continue to strive for fair play. By the way the Toros took their first penanty of the season in their 14th game and the coaching staff were kidding the player by dubbing him a Goon!! Ryan Robinson closed out the middle period scoring, the assist going to defenceman Jason Hoffman. Chris McCarthy scored the only goal of the final period, assisted by Chad Vanderende who had a marvellous game for the Toros. Ryan Robinson put Bowmanville into an early lead, with the assists going to Steve Deblois and Collin Taggert. That was it for Bowmanville as Cobourg took control of the contest. The lads from the east scored five unanswered goals for their margin of victory and were full value for the win. Steve Oke wasn't afforded much protection in goal and didn't have much chance on the goals. A & R Flooring Downs Skylight On Sat., Nov. 15, A and R Flooring and Skylight Donuts left defense on the wayside as they combined to score a total of nine goals. Numerous breakaways from both teams provided most of the excitement and only good goaltending from Skylight's Chris Polley and A and R's Niki Defreitas kept the score out of the double digits. Chris Pot, having his best offensive performance in his young hockey career, set up the first goal scored by Brian Ball, then scored four goals for a five point afternoon. Mike McCrory rounded out the scoring for A and R after he shot a Chris Steele rebound into the net. It was Chris Steele's first point of the season. Other assists went to Brian Ball, John Marco Cannito, Mike McCrory with 2, Marc Gendron and Craig Sabine with 2. Skylight's goals were scored by Robbie MacCheyne, Bryan Lowery and Brad Johnson as a result of scrambles in front of the net. On Sat., Nov. 8, A and R defeated Shoppers Drug Mart 3-0. Goals were scored by Niki Defreitas, Brian Ball, and Chris Pot. Mike McCrory got the shut-out for A and R. On November 10, Toros got a taste of the Red Wings play at 1 Children's Arena in Oshawa. Beginning very slowly, the first period packed a punch in the direction of Bowmanville as the boys, skating with only two lines, found they couldn't keep up with what seemed to be an endless supply of fresh Red Wings legs (the Oshawa team had so many extra players, Toros considered offering them some of their bench space). As a result, by the end of the first period Bowmanville had fallen into a 3-0 pit. Although not insurmountable, the score was not reflective of what was really happening on the ice as Red Wing attackers who were licenced to shoot lay siege on Warren Wright while Toros failed to clear rebounds. Judging by the pummeling our goalie was taking, scoring should have been in the double figures for Qshawa, but was foiled by the Great Deflector. During ! the second, remnants of the old team broke through as Laird-Ewles- McCullough and Duczmalewski-Powers and Portelance lines came alive charging into Red Wing territory in impressive forays. The Crago-Dalton-Pithie- Szuch defence squads threw stiffer checks and hustled back to protect home base. However, with three straight days of hockey behind them the two lines eventually ran out of fuël and the Toro flame flickered in the night. Like a dying flame, the end of the second and beginning of the third saw a Toro final flash with Greg Portelance's impressive unassisted drive at net catching a surprised goalie. Greg (assisted by John Duczmalewski) repeated the task at 12:09 of the third, bringing Toros within range 3- 2; but Red Wings retaliated with three unanswered goals sounding the death knell and sending the boys home with their first league defeat for quite a while. November 14, with the return of Tim Partridge and Brooke Clemens Saturday night, Toros had almost a; full roster and hopes Were high' for revenge 'against the. Red Wings. ! It was not to be. After a scoreless first period, fans knew it was just a matter of time as once again Toros abandoned their game and attempted to skate with this faster minor team. Bowmanville gave up ownership of the boards, midice midice and most dangerously - the slot area. Failing to remove the attack from the front of the net allowed Oshawa shooting practice as Warren deflected too many third and fourth; tries. Toro frustration was written on the walls of the penalty box as the boys counted 12 for twenty-four minutes. When it was all over, the boys headed for the dressing room down 5-3 and to the drawing board for a new game plan. Scoring for Bowmanville - Paul Crago in a spectacular unassisted and determined drive from his own end; John Duczmalewski (Chris Ewles, Greg Portelance) and Brooke Clemens unassisted. On Sunday, November 16,.a still depleted team travelled to Ajax to face a double A squad of bantam minors. The team appeared a bit overwhelmed in the first as Ajax outskated, out manoeuvred and outshot Bowmanville, leaving the period 2-0. During, the second, Toros relived the lessons of Saturday night as Ajax with fresh 'legs . - changing two shifts to our one - assaulted Warren Wright but beating him only once to go ahead 3-0. Then the change in action came. At a time when exhaustion should have set in, Bowmanville suddenly came alive and successfully shut down the Ajax attack. At 2:58 John Duczmalewski captured the puck behind the Ajax net, moved out to the side and directed a pass onto Greg Portelance's waiting stick to lessen the gap. Toros dominated the third letting the guard down only once to allow Ajax to capitalize. The last three minutes belonged to Bowmanville. At 1:06 Tim Powers. brought the puck across the blue line, hit Greg Portelance who redirected with split-second timing to John Duczmalewski's sure hands quickly driving it home. Although Toros lost this one 4-2, the message was clear. Toro 2's are back on track. Night Hawks November 12,1986 High Single D.Trewin235 High Triple K. Oyenden614 . Team Standings K. Dutchman Midgets Top Oshawa Squad Dave Wright and Kevin Noble, two Bowmanville graduates who are now affiliated with Oshawa's Minor Hockey, brought their AA team to town last Saturday night. It was probably the best challenge the Flying Dutchman Midgets have had yet and they rose to the occasion and played one of their steadiest games of the year. The first half was a close checking affair with each team only taking good percentage shots. John Romano pul the Toros on the board from Campbell and Stainton, but Oshawa tied it up and went ahead by one. Mike Gallant from Real and Romano knotted it again. Troy Harness started the third off with the winner from Stainton and Tripp and Scott Page and Gareth Stone added the insurance markers. Rob Heal, Shawn Rokkor and Troy Harness made the assists. Sunday night was a shooting practice in Lindsay with the Molellers coming with a 9-2 win. David Fairey had a 5 point night with 3 goals and two assists, while Mark Tripp had four goals and one assist. Other goals went to Glen Campbell and Rob Real. With the team short defenceman Rob played a steady game in that position. Burke Lush and Scott Webster shared the goaltending duties. The next game is Sunday, Novembcr23 at Darlington 5:0 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. against Lindsay again.
