Congratulations to the following following individuals who placed well at the Cross Country Meet: Tracy Weightman placed 4th in Primary Girls Division ■Matthew Harrison placed 9th in Primary Boys Division Jeff Vivian placed 3rd, Mike Kelt placed 6th and Scott Brown placed 7th in Junior Boys Division Nancy Cosgrave placed 4th, Heidi Brown placed 5th and Olga Kukasch placed 7th in Intermediate Girls. Maureen Cosgrave placed 3rd in Senior Girls Division. Ross Bilton placed 5th in Senior Boys Division Primary Girls Team placed 2nd, Primary Boys Team placed 2nd, Intermediate Girls Team placed 2nd and Senior Boys Team placed 4th in the overall standing for Victoria County Schools. Special mention is made of the Junior Boys team which won the Championship in their division. Thanks are extended extended to coaches Mrs. Russo, Mrs. Patenall, Mr. Nester, and Mr. Strongitharm. In Soccer action, our Senior girls won the "B" Championship, Championship, while the Junior mixed and Senior boys teams both lost a chance at the Championship Championship games as a result of tie games. Thanks to soccer coaches, Ms. Holmes, Mr. Gerris, and Mr. Nester. Other school activities of interest: interest: Under direction of the Kinsmen Club of Manvers Township, some student volunteers volunteers accompanied Rick Hansen for a 7 km run on Highway 2 from Newcastle westward, on Saturday, November 1st. By now, three more portables will have arrived which will enable all class sizes to be improved, even though some students will be asked to change teachers, which is unfortunate. Welcome to the following new teachers joining the Grandview staff: Mrs. Beverly Fisher - Senior Kindergarten, Kindergarten, Miss Karen Rankin Rankin - Grade 1-2 class, and Mr. Walter Baker - Grade 4-5. My husband and I took in a bit of the second "Country Christmas" weekend, on Saturday, Saturday, November 15th. Kathy Morton was on hand with a warming cup of hot cider. We were able to browse through both downstairs and upstairs. It was interesting to see a choice of crafts and 1 pictures which were, as usual, tastily displayed. The whole family participates in operating this fine gallery. On Sunday, November 16th, Rev. Heather Smith had an unusual object lesson with the children, involving locks and keys. She tied the lesson up by pointing out that in the Gospels Gospels we can find the Key to Life, which is our Saviour, Christ Jesus. Later in the service, Rev. Smith presented a meditation entitled "Writings "Writings In The Dust". Christ was not only condemning the woman taken in adultery, but also the heartless religious leaders of the day, who had dragged the poor victim to Jesus. God is full of compassion, compassion, as well as a righteous judge. There is a note of correction for last week's bowling results. results. Instead of High Single being won by Gail Kelt, it was won by Elaine Grabco with a score of 203. High Double remained the same. On Monday, November 17th, Julie Worr won both High Single and High Double with scores of 258 and 446 respectively. Mary Brady won the strike fund. Lavern Finney's father, John Wesley Finney died at the Ross Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, November 12th. Funeral was on Saturday, November November 15th from Mackey Funeral Home. Interment Ballyduff cemetery. Sympathy Sympathy to this family. Ten "tweenies" were enrolled in Brownies at the Commuinity Centre on Mon-: day, November 17th. These were: Kelli Dunford, Dawn Cassidy, Jamie Moss, Julie Kennedy, Bonnie Gallagher, Leeann Dochuk, Lisa Scheffee, Melinda Balson, Michelle Stacheruk and Karey Wilson. Suzanne Muirhead enrolled two new teachers, namely Shelda Chapman and Arlene Leystra. The Tweenies prepared a very good lunch, and earned their "Baker's Badge" and their "Hostess Badge" by serving this lunch to all guests present, including their own moms and dads. All in all, it was a beautiful evening. evening. ' A timely word about Christmas Christmas mail. According to the postal sheet "Mail a little love this Christmas" the deadline dates are: First Class, Out of Town, Dec. 12th, In Town, Dec. 17th. Parcel Post, Out of Town, Dec.Bth and in Town, Dec. 15th. If possible, it would help to have everything ready for post ahead of the deadline date. This will relieve some of the rush at the Post Office and leave time for other Christmas Christmas preparations. Greeting cards in special envelopes envelopes can be mailed for 29 cents and the precoded stamps needed are sold in booklets of ten. Please ask the Postmaster for more information information on any of the above. Jessie M. Adams died at Peterborough Civic Hospital on Monday, November 17th. Reception was at Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home in Bowmanville Bowmanville on Tuesday, November November 18th, with funeral service in the chapel at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 19th. Interment Orono cemetery. She was the sister of Mrs. Herman Webb (Marion) and aunt-in-law of Bruce Adams. The sympathy of the community community goes to these bereaved relatives and their families. Larry Bradley is home recovering recovering from recent surgery. Please continue to pray for Garth Clingman, Sandra Stronge and others whom you know of laid up with illness. Music Festival As of November 17,1986 the Kiwanis Club of Whitby has joined with the four Oshawa Kiwanis Clubs to operate the Kiwanis Music Festival in the Durham and surrounding area. The Kiwanis Clubs of Westmount, Oshawa Durham A.M., Sydenham, and Whitby with three Directors from each club, will now run the Oshawa-Whitby Kiwanis Music Festival. The Official Syllabus and entry forms are now available and copies can be picked up at the following music stores: Thomas House of Music, Whitby, Alto II Oshawa, Walter's Music, Oshawa Centre, Music Media, Pickering, Wilson and Lee, Oshawa, Irwin Smith, Port Perry. The Festival will be held in Oshawa, MARCH 30 TO APRIL 11,1987. Entries to the Festival close JANUARY 15,1987. The Night of Stars of the Festival will be held at Eastdale Auditorium on APRIL 15,1987.
