Think Canadian JU PRODUCT OF ONTARIO " FRESH NEVER FROZEN "KEEP YOUR FOOD COSTS DOWN -- SHOP BY THE BOX" (1.50 PLASTIC BOX DEPOSIT) \ WHOLE OR HALF by Amanda White Grade 5, Hampton Jr. Public School On Tuesday, September 23, the first harrier meet was held. Mrs. Bennett, our coach, started us in training as soon as we got signed up! "Five times around", she would say, referring to our practice runs around the school yard. A couple of weeks later it was the day of the Harrier Meet. Everybody was so nervous, but Mrs. Bennett . comforted us and said just try your best. When we got there we went to look at the hill and found out that the girls were running first. We got lined up and waited for the signal to start the race. On your mark, get set, GO! At first it was hard, it was like you were in a marathon. When you got to the top of the hill it was pretty straight forward. There were people and orange markers to show you where to go. , . A couple of minutes later, J reached the finish line fa'nd the lady gave me a card with a number 1 on it. You don't know how relieved I was!. I couldn't wait to see Mrs. Bennett's face when I told her I had won. So I ran up where she was waiting and told her. She grew a great big smile and said, Great! Then I showed her my red ribbon and we started to walk to see where the other girls had placed. Later on my principal, Mr. , Pitt, drove me home. The next day, we were back in training again, round and round and round we went -- five times .around the schoolyard. The next day, Mrs. Bennett told us that the next harrier meet was on Tuesday, October October 28, and that close to 11 schools were participating participating in it. My friend, Leslie Hutchinson, and I were running running together discussing harrier. Every afternoon we ran around the school. Finally it was the day, we got our shirts and got changed. This time I got a drive with Leslie Leslie and her brother, David. When we arrived, Mrs. Bennett Bennett told us that the boys were running first. "Good," we said. The boys started off and then it was our turn. We picked out the best spots first and then we waited for the signal again to start. We started off the same way as last time. On your mark, get set, GO! Up and down hills we went and into the woods. I could still hear my team mates cheering cheering me on. Through the mud and puddles and up and down the bridges we went. My friend, Leslie, let me pass her and then I passed another girl and then I was in third place. We were, almost at the end of the race. We could.hear people cheering. (Then I passed another girl and she told her friend who was in first place to watch out. We were really close for a long time but then I passed her and I was in first place. Straight on to the finish line I ran till I finally reached it, where my teacher and coach and principal were waiting. I had won itagain. You should have seen Mrs. Bennett's face now. When we got to the car, Phillip Phillip sat in the front. Mrs. Bennett Bennett solved that one real quick, I got to sit in the front. It was over, I thought and I was kind of glad.
