PRICES EFFECTIVE UNTIL SATURDAY SEPT 77/1966 Obituaries Charles Edmund Gay A Former member of the Orono Band for 40 years, Charles Edmund Gay, aged 79, died at Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville, on Thursday, September 11th, 1986, Born and educated at Les- kard, he was the son of John and Martha Gay. He was married December 25th, 1937, to Hazel McRoberts. A resident of Bowmanville at 43 Prospect Street, he had previously resided at R.R.l, Kendal. Self-employed as a farmer he had also been employed at Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville Bowmanville and as a truck driver at Cliff Mills Motors. He retired nine years ago. He was a former elder and chairman of Kendal United Church. Surviving are his wife Hazel, sons Ross and Ron Gay, a sister Elva McDonald, and four grandchildren. The Reverend Audrey Fisher officiated at the funeral services held on Saturday at the Morris Funeral Chapel, Bowmanville. Bowmanville. ville. Favorite hymns of the deceased were rendered on the chapel organ. Pallbearers were Messrs Wayne Foster, Edward Carscadden, Bob Geach, Ivan, Leland and Ken Ball. Interment Orono Cemetery Gladys Ellen May Lamb Following a lengthy illness, Gladys Ellen May Lamb, aged 80, died in Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville, on Saturday, August 23rd, 1986. Born and educated in Enniskillen, Enniskillen, she was the daughter of the late William and Alma (Tamblyn) Stainton. On October 29th, 1927, she was married to Lome Lamb. A lifelong resident of the Enniskillen Area she was a member of Enniskillen United Church, and was a devoted wife and mother. Left to mourn her passing are her husband Lome, sons Donald, Ralph and Stuart Lamb, a daughter Ruth (Mrs. Allan Wray) all from Bowmanville, 15 grandchildren grandchildren and five great grandchildren. grandchildren. The Reverend David McKinnell officiated at the funeral services held on Tuesday Tuesday at the Morris Funeral Chapel, Bowmanville. The organist was Mrs. J. Albert Cole. Pallbearers were grandsons William Lamb and Dave Sjiowden, and nephews Ray and Clarence Stainton, Paul Towns, and Garth Hetz. Many floral arrangements were received in her memory including tributes from Enniskillen Enniskillen United Church and the staff of Ed Gallagher Insurance Insurance Co., Oshawa. Interment St. Peter's Cemetery, Cemetery, Fenelon Falls. ADELINA C.P. POWELL Adelina C.P. Powell died on Friday, Aug.29, 1986, in Bowmanville. She was 79. Born in Toronto, her parents parents were the late Peter Charles and Mary Ann Lofthouse. She married the late Aubrey Aubrey W. Powell on April 7, 1928. Before settling in Newcastle Newcastle seven years ago, she lived in Whitby. She is survived by two sons, Charles and Edward; two daughters, Audrey Powell Powell and Alice Drinkwater; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, George Lofthouse; and a sister, Gertie Brimbcombe. Mrs. Powell was at North- cutt Elliott Funeral Home. Funeral services were held in the chapel on Saturday, Aug. 30,1986. Rev. Amackcr officiated. Interment was at Oshawa Union Cemetery. William McCulloch Morrison A well known and prominent citizen of the area, William McCulloch Morrison, died in Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville, Bowmanville, on Sunday, June 22nd, 1986, in his 72nd year. He had been ill eight months. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Morrison, he was bom at Galt, and was educated at Galt Collegiate and the Ontario Agriculture College, Guelph. On January 30th, 1942, he was married to Marjorie Evangeline Hunt. A resident of Bowmanville- at 26 Concession St. W., for 35! years, he had previously resided resided at 303 Golf St., Oshawa, for seven years. He had been employed at Beaton's Dairy, Oshawa, in Plant Management for 16 years. In 1984 officers and members members of the Ontario Municipal Electrical Association were pleased to honor Mr. Morrison in recognition of his contribution contribution to the progress of the Municipal Hydro systems of the Province of Ontario by his devoted service as a hydro commissioner for the municipality of Newcastle for 15 years and his loyalty to the ideals of our province wide publicly owned hydro electrical electrical system. He played OHA Junior- hockey with the Oshawa. Generals and was a National Hockey League Official from 1949-66. Retired for 15 years, he had been a member of the Rotary Club, and of the Masonic Order. He was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church, Galt. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Marjorie, daughter Lana Rickard, son William and four grandchildren. grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home on Tuesday, with the Reverend Edward Schamerhorn officiating. The organist was Mrs. Arlene Ayre. Many beautiful floral tributes tributes were received attesting to the esteem in which the deceased was held. Interment Bowmanville Cemetery. Elizabethville W.I. Meeting On Tuesday the W.I. met at Mrs. Edna Morris' home. À good number gathered for our, first fall meeting. The president president Mrs. Barkwell opened the meeting with the singing of the Ode and reading the Mary Stewart Collect. The roll call was 'Tell a craft of a different country.' Most members brought something; fancy work from Japan, partly done to show; wooden carving from Africa; leather tooling; a Dutch trivet; china; and many others. Letters and thank you notes were read. The minutes of the last meeting were read by our secretary Mrs. Beatty. It was decided to get life membership pins for Mrs. Quantrill and Mrs. Wheeler. We made plans for our weekend weekend at the park which is Sept. 12-13. We discussed the need for a copier at the library and decided to donate what we make at the weekend catering toward this copier. The program was Citizenship Citizenship and World Affairs which Mrs. Morris is head of. Mrs. Betty Mercer, Mrs. Thickson, and Mrs. Morris had news items and a story Mrs. Elliott had brought some butterfly ornaments for sticking on the fridg for the members as there wasn't enough at our June celebration for our members to have one. The meeting was adjourned. Lunch was provided provided by Edna and Doris Morris. Next meeting Oct. 7th. Mrs. Trew had the motto and gave a little talk on it. It was 'always wear a good pair of shoes because you spend all your life in them.' Ain't it the Truth?
