August 20, 1986 Newcastle Girls Softball League Playoffs on Saturday Produces Plenty of Exciting Action at Memorial Nobody could have asked for a more exciting finale in the Bantam Division of the Newcastle Girls Softball League playoffs on Saturday at Memorial Park. After playing almost a complete game of extra innings, the girls from Brownsdale finally scored a run to break the 21-21 deadlock with Van Dyk Real Estate. The winning members of Brownsdale are, from left to right, front row, Jackie Wibenga, Judy DeVries, Jody Farrow, Kim Plitz, Marilyn Wibenga, back row, Annette Harness, Brenda Knapp, Claudia Kuehn, Michelle Riddle, Paula Warner, Tammy Warner, Tammy Riddle, Shelley Fice, and coach Ron Farrow. Absent for the photo were Cindy Applegath and Julie Warren. The Novice Division league champions for 1986 are from Newcastle. The team was defeated in the playoffs, however their performance during the regular season kept them at the top of the standings at the end of the schedule. Members are, front row, Tara Gamier, Andrea Chinn, Lisa-Marie Wright, Lisa Virtue, Amy Donahue, back row, coach Mike White, Alana White, Paula Darrach, Sher- rylee Wright, Danielle Peel, Carrie McCurdy, and Kim Burke. Absent for the photo were Alison McArthur, Stacey Dunnigan and Kristin Sanders. Although they did not win the playoff championship, Van Dyk team members did win the League title. Although they were eliminated in the playoffs, team members still received awards for their fine play during the season.
