We want to encourage you to enter The Miss Durham Central Fair Contest during Orono fair, September 4th, 5th, 6th Morals, Manners and God by Rev. W. Whitman Liberty Pentecostal Church "God In the Classroom" Just yesterday on our local newscast I heard where the Supreme Court of Ontario voted to turn down a request by a half dozen mothers, to have morning prayer removed from the classroom. That's one decision which I whole heartedly endorse. The educational policy in Ontario has always been one of co-operation of church and state. It was in accordance with this policy that religious instruction manuals for teachers, were published back in 1945. The general acceptance acceptance and wide use of these books encouraged the Ontario inter-church committee on religious education in schools to publish another text for grade 7 students. This was done in 1959. Daniel Webster wrote; "Knowledge doesn't comprise all that is centered in .the larger term of education. The feelings must be disciplined; the passions must be restrained; true and worthy motives must be inspired. A profound Christian faith is to be enjoyed and pure morality is to be maintained under all circumstances. All of this is comprised in a true education." If Webster was right, then I'm afraid our present educational system has fallen far short of providing that "true education." In previous decades Christian teaching and principles were taught and respected in our public schools, but now it's the new religion of humanism and situation ethics.. A famous American lawyer once said: "The Bible is our only safe guide and the moment we relegate it from BAHA'I FAITH "Incline your ears, O friends of God, to the voice of Him Whom the world hath wronged, and hold fast unto whatsoever will exalt His Cause. He, verily, guideth whomsoever He pleaseth i unto His straight Path. This is a Revelation that infuseth strength into the feeble, and crowneth with wealth the ' destitute." I believe that Christian faith and morals are vital to the survival of our free western civilization in all areas of life., eductional, political, religious and social. Surely we aren't against brotherly love, honesty, peace, mutual consideration and a firm foundation to hold to when turmoil and distress touch our lives. So I say, "Thank God for the wisdom of the Ontario Supreme Court in turning down this unconscionable request. "One of the programs we have really developed is the pre-school mini program," said Jane Lunn, Program Directer at the Fitness Centre, "Many people are interested in starting their children younger." One of the programs called "Parent and Tot" deals with youngsters from the ages of newborns to one, one to two, and two to five. These lessons may be taken with or without the parent; "What happens is that the child learns with repetition," repetition," said Mrs. Lunn, "The arm and leg movement is natural. There is no fear." Pediatricians state that the presence of chlorine in the water docs not hurt the children of any age. If anything, anything, it is the temperature, of the water that makes them uncomfortable. The children in the one to two age group are very confident confident in the water as most became comfortable in the water before moving up a level. These children learm things like jumping in the water and swimming, or floating to the side of the pool to safety. "One of the main reasons for starting them off young is so they can learn water safety," said Darla Cameron, Cameron, pool supervisor at the Fitness Centre. "If you think'about it, most of the drownings are with kids this age. The reason why they are swimming with their clothes on is if they were to have an accident, they would be used to the feel of their wet clothes."
