/ i 6 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, April 2,1986 Section Two PONTYPOOL KNOB HILL SPECIALS AVAILABLE ALL WEEK. MON.-SAT.! [Intended for Last Week] by Nettie Aiken A meeting of the Pontypool Keenagers was held at the Pontypool Community Centre on Thursday, March 20th, with an attendance of 23. Six tables of euchre were played. High Lady was Margaret Wright, 74; Low Lady, Audrey Wood, 52. High Man was Harold Moore, 75; Low Man, Cliff Fallis, 55. Winner Take All Draw was won by Leonard Cain. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, April 3rd at 8:00 p.m. Those who attended the pot- luck supper and program on Friday, March 21st, were in for a big treat. Some of the best cooks and talented entertainers entertainers in this part of the country shared their abilities with a capacity crowd. A few ladies gave of their time to organize things in the kitchen. Thank you, ladies, very much. The program, with Master of Ceremonies,Bob Bolten, was first class, with a good variety. Some of the stars were a seniors fun group from Whitby, the Whitby Jubilee Choir, of which Frank Stacey is a member. Some had never been to or heard of a pot-luck supper. The free-will offering, after expenses, was a little over $80.00, which was put on the church offering plate on Sunday, March 23rd. It is hoped now that this can become become an annual event. Rev. Heather Smith shared a surprise surprise birthday party with us as . well. Margaret Quigley arranged arranged this with Frank Stacey and Rev. Smith's daughter, Ursula, baking the cake. On Sunday, Rev. Heather Smith reviewed with the children children the meaning of Palm Sunday, and there was a palm branch parade of the children around the sanctuary, a couple of times, while the adults sang the hymn "Hosanna, loud hosannas". The first hymn, chosen by Ruth Richardson, was "Jesus Is The Man", a very appropriate appropriate one for the beginning of Holy Week. In the sermon, she pointed out that Jesus chose to do the things according to prophesy, in order to carry out His Father's plan of redemption, even though he could have avoided it, thus going through these events with "mixed feelings". You are reminded that April 11, 12th, and 19th, are the dates for photos to be taken for a church photo directory. Please give your co-operation, when someone phones you about this. On Sunday afternoon, the Manvers Figure Skating Club held a skating carnival at the Manvers Arena. It was on a calibre with the Ice Follies, and perhaps some of the skaters will make future Olympic contestants. Everyone Everyone had a chance to participate participate and there was a good turnout to cheer them on. Many thanks to all who worked behind the scenes, in cluding the pro, Rhonda Hogg, who put in many extra hours helping the children. Bowling on Monday, March 24th, was a fun day. Before describing the crazy ways of having fun the second game, let me give you the usual statistics. In overall standings, standings, the top teams remain the same. In first place is Team No. 5, Yvonne Fallis, captain, "Slow Pokes". In second place is Team No. 4, Joan Jeffery, captain, "Corner "Corner Pins", in third place is Team No. 3, Vicki Campbell, captain, "The Ringers". The top bowler, working on a bowl- off score, was Joan Bedford, with a High Single of 345 and a High Double of 543. The second game consisted of two frames each of the following: Frames 1 and 2 - Bowling with the opposite hand to what you normally use; Frames 3 and 4 - Backwards Backwards between your legs, with both hands; Frames 5 and 6 - Frontwards between your legs, with both hands; Frames 7 and 8 - Standing on one foot; Frames 9 and 10 - Backwards between your legs again, bowling with the opposite hand. Of course, all this caused a good many laughs. There were Wintario tickets for hidden scores in the first game, and in the second game there were similar prizes for the highest score, won by Darlene Darlene Muller, lowest score, won by your correspondent, and a couple of others, based on the numbers of strikes and head- pins. In between the two games, Joan Corley won the strike fund and Marie Thompson Thompson and Toby Arbeau shared a cash prize of $10.00 towards an Easter turkey.- , Also, plans were made for our windup banquet on April 28th in Peterborough, We are to bowl at Lakeview Lanes, and then proceed to Toby's Restaurant on Lansdowne Street. It seems hardly possible possible that our bowling season just has another month to go. It has been a good year. Your correspondent was sorry to hear that former Reeve, George Neal spent a week in Ross Memorial Hospital, Hospital, diagnosed as suffering from unstable angina, but is home now, taking it easy, as the doctors have told him that the angina was a warning of a pending heart attack if he is not careful. We all wish him the best for a speedy recovery, that he can go on enjoying his retirement. Please pray for him and the family. / The Pontypool Weight.and Friendship Group have been having some lovely, interesting interesting meetings. On Tuesday, March 25th, we all gathered at the home of Barb Leblanc and participated in the baking of Easter Bread, which we all had a chance to take home, and, in between baking stages, shared a few games of 'green' bingo, i.e. the prizes were predominantly green in colour (for belated St. Patrick's celebration). celebration).
