FRIDAY ISATURDAY PRICES EFFECTIVE UNTIL SATURDAY JAN. 11/86 Celebrations have been the order of the day (or night) in our community, using almost anything for an excuse for various festivities. One of the more justifiable reasons for a party was one sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Malcolm and Candy on Saturday night. This one was for a former resident of the Nestleton area some years back who moved to Australia with her husband and is currently visiting friends and relatives in Canada for several weeks. We refer of course to Mrs. Margaret Addison of Australia (formerly Margaret Steel, daughter of the late Mable and Billy Steele) and her son Andrew currently living and employed in Toronto. It was indeed a pleasure to again see Margaret, a colleague of ours at Blackstock High School more years ago than either of us care to admit. Among the 25-30 guests assembled including some for dinner and the balance during the evening were the Terry Malcolm family, Art and Doris Rowan (Art and Margaret are first cousins), Ralph and Linda Pfoh; Candy's girlfriend Sharon Brown of T.O.; Neil and Noreen Malcolm and Lawrence and Gwen Malcolm, and all of our personal tribe - Corrie and Harvey Malcolm, Mitze, Marti, Jane and Dionne, Mona and Ronnie Sharman. Also Murray Malcolm and Ann and Miss Betty Whittaker of Hamilton. A very pleasant evening recalling old memories with earlier friends and neighbours. Margaret and Andrew were overnight guests later with Cousin Art and Doris Rowan, Another series of parties which could contribute to our early demise of sclerosis of the liver, also occurred this week when the Queen Bee of our Malconia hive was honoured on the occasion of her birthday. On Saturday evening, Corrie and I accompanied Eileen and Howard Malcolm and Miss Betty Whittaker to the "Lion and Unicorn" restaurant in Whitby as their guests for the occasion. Deminishing the "joi de "vivre" on this particular occasion however, was the fact that one of the group who was a long standing member of our birthday parties was missing. Sorry to report Mrs. Audrie Brown now 1 residing in Prince Albert, was admitted to Port Perry Hospital early Saturday a.m. All join in wishing Audrie a speedy.. recovery from her curren| medical problems. Enhancing a '. délicioùs dinner,, were the musical, renditions of Ion and Janice on guitar and accordion with a Scottish flavour. Corrie was as usual the recipient of a number of useful as well as dubious gifts. Mr. Louis Nasato and Miss Elizabeth Nasato are scheduled to spend the weekend with Corrie, Harvey and Mona Malcolm, We are pleased to report that as of Sunday Mr. Maurice Mantle (more recognizable as Moe) was moved out of intensive care following major surgery in Oshawa General Hospital last week, is now permitted to have visitors. A speedy convalescance to the general proprietor of our Yelverton "You bust it -1 fix it" Shop. Malthib Farms (the Howard and Terry Malcolm's) recently held a Christmas party for their employees and their families with a few extras thrown in. Art and Doris Rowan, Ralph and Linda Pfoh are scheduled to hold Christmas with Mr. and Mrs, Keith Baker and children in Etobicoke. Nancy and Dale Stinson are likewise planning a family gathering for Nancy's family - the Dan Gould family members this week. Dan Gould visited with relatives in New Brunswick during the Christmas holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Alan Gundry of Barrie are expected to share Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Terry Malcolm and family and Eileen and Howard Malcolm and Candy and Aunt Betty Whittaker. Howard was the recipient recently of an attractive desk set which included a clock and pencil in appreciation of his years as Chairman of the Canadian Pork Council. Also he received a painting (or etching) from the Bowmanville Rotary Club which he recently addressed, painted by a long time acquaintance Mr. Donald Staples of Orono - both of which he prizes considerably. Due to the stormy weather, no doubt, Yelverton United Church was not busting at the seams for our Christmas Christmas service. Rev. John Sloan provided a timely sermon - "While Shepherds watched their flocks". The local choir was augmented by the musical propensities of Mr. Jack Gordon of Janetville in dual capacity of serving both in choir and with 10 nimble fingers on the piano.. Mr. Quentin Robinson will be taking all the services on the Janetville Charge next Sunday to allow Rev. John to spend a weeks holiday with his family in Calgary Alberta. On Sunday, Jan. 5 a celebration of John Wesley's Convenanting Service (an old Methodist tradition we're told) will be observed with Sacraments of the Lord's Supper. Lovely poinsettia plants were placed in the church on Sunday by Bert and Betty Third in memory of their son Ken and girl friend June Carter. Three of the Sunday School children lit the final candle of Advent during the service. On Sunday, December 22, the Henderson family held their annual Christmas reunion at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Malcolm of Don Mills. Local branches of the Henderson family and their "twigs" were in attendance - the Robinson and Russo families from our community. Mr. and Mrs. Darryl Robinson of Metcalf are currently spending a few days with their families in the area. Quenton and Amanda Robinson motored to St. Johns, Michigan, U.S.A. to be with Amanda's family. Marti, Jane and Dionne entertained Marti's family for brunch on Christmas day. Later on they hosted Jane's family - Mr. and Mrs. Peter Connolly, Mrs. A. Austin of Bobcaygeon, Mr. and Mrs. Wendel Wyatt and Nicole of U.S.A. and Jane's Uncle Graham Austin. Please to hear that Jane's sister Julie is recovering nicely from burns received when a propane stove blew up in her face a few weeks back. Pleased to report that both Mrs. Audrie Brown in Port Perry Hospital and Mr. Moe Mantle in Oshawa General both are progressing well judging from own personal assessment on Christmas Day following their staking claims in those institutions. Moe hopes to be evicted this coming weekend and anticipates recuperating for the winter with Mr. and Mrs Tom Wilson in Lotus. Miss Valerie Malcolm of Montreal spent a few days around Christmas with her father Murray Malcolm and members of her families. Our own particular limb of the family tree observed Christmas here at Malconia on Boxing Day - Mitzi and Bob Pick and Molson of Ajax, Marti, Jane and Dionne of Omemee, Mona Malcolm of Ajax and Ronnie Sharman of Lindsay. Welcome callers included Janice and John Hunter and John Jr. of Bobcaygeon and Miss Candy Malcolm who is enjoying a few days holidays with her family. Mr. and Mrs. Art Catten of Prince Albert area were dinner guests this week of Eileen and Howard Malcolm. On Friday of this week, Manvers Pee Wees played in a. tournament at Douro and won all three of their games. Todd Malcolm was a local representative on the team. Earlier, the Manvers Tykes played in a tournament in Bewdley and won the Championship in the 8 team draw as well. Scott Nisbett and Jeremy Malcolm were local contributors. Mr. Murray Malcolm and Ann hosted their families to a Christmas dinner on Christmas Day with 16 members present. On Friday evening Ann and Murray held open house for around 25 of friends and relatives. This included Murray's three daughters, Marliah, Valerie and Lana, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Malcolm and their complete family, Mr. Ron Gibson and Amanda of Janetville, Mr. John Brown of Montreal, Miss Betty Whittaker of Hamilton, Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Dart, Miss Caroline Van Alstine of Lindsay, Miss Linda Craig and Corrie and Harvey Malcolm.
