Mrs. Rose McMurray flew out for the funeral. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Trew had Mrs. M. Trew on the weekend. Church services were held as usual. There wasn't too big a crowd, about fifty. Mrs. Lynda King was with us. After the usual opening service the choir sang ain.ianthem. Mrs. king had a story' about the little boy who hadn't ^ any friends just his ants and bugs and a small turtle, they couldn't give him love so his sister got him a puppy and he was happy. We cannot live without love. The only announcement was the U.C.W. Unit II meeting on Tuesday at Mr. and Mrs. Ross Beatty's. Annual meetings are planned for the week of the 13th at the three charges. Mr. R. Smith and Greg Smith took up the offering. Mrs. Quantrill was at the door. Scriptures were read from Ephesians 1:3-6, the gospel scripture Luke 10:25-28. Mrs. King's topic was, "Creation - Centred Spiritualilty." In Paul's letter to the Ephesians he is concerned first of all with God's plan to bring all creation together, everything in heaven and on earth with Christ as head. A teacher of the law tried to trap Jesus by asking, "What must I do to receive eternal life?" Jesus Holiday Season Visitors Miss Grace Smith of Long Sault spent Christmas with Mrs. Hazel Smith, Bowmanville. Blain Vaneyk, Vancouver, B.C., spent Christmas week with the P. Vaneyk family. Mrs. May Hodgson, Marnwood House, Bowmanville, Bowmanville, Mr. Stan Hodgson, Bowmanville attended the Yeo family gathering gathering at Haydon Hall on New Year's day. Mr. and Mrs. P. Vaneyk called on Mr. and Mrs. Russell Yeo, Oshawa. Mercer were with Mr. and Mrs. H. Quantrill for tea Sunday. Mrs. Crombie and boys, were with Mr. and Mrs. C. Mercer at New Years. The boys stayed with Bryan Mercer till Friday. ■v Mrs. C. Mercfer visited Mrs.. Cantrill, Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Campbell had visitors from Kitchener over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Bond and a friend from the Yukon visited at Campbell's also. OBITUARY Monday, January 13, 1986, at Centennial United * Church, Oshawa, registration at 9:00 a.m. Euchre There were 1712 tables of euchre in play at the Community Centre on Friday evening, January 3,1986, with the following results: 1st John Broome, Harold Burgess, Gordon Beech, Anne Berry, Myrtle Gimblett, Betty Kuyer. Special Draws: Doreen Ferguson, Nancy Wright, Rob Robinson, Leonard Cain. The Byam family Christmas was held on December 26,1985 at the home of Ralph and Cecile Bowers. There were thirty five people for supper, and when two came later, a total of 37 enjoyed a wonderful Christmas reunion. The next Athletics meeting will be February 2 at 10 a.m. start. The board would like all members to be on time. ALEC EDWARD LYLE A well known and respected citizen of Bowmanville, Alec Edward Lyle, aged 69, passed away in Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville, on Saturday, December 28th, 1985. He had been in poor health for some time. Born and educated in Bowmanville, he was the son of George and Margaret Lyle. He was married April 27th, 1946, to Louise M. Sellers. An electrician all his life following his discharge from the army, he had been employed by Higgon Electric for 24 years retiring due to poor health. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church. He had resided at 14 Flett Street, Bowmanville. During World War II he served with "D" Company, Midland Regt., later joining theF.S.S.F. 4th Company, 2nd Regt. of the First Special Service Force "Renown" - Canadian and American Para- troop Division, serving overseas overseas in Italy, France, . Germany and England. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Louise, daughter Patti (Mrs, Gary Millson), sons John and daughter-in-law Heather, Paul and daughter- in-law Gail, six grandchildren, sisters Marion (Mrs. Reg Moynes), Edith (Mrs. Jack Bentley), Dorothy (Mrs, Roy Leverington), Lucy (Mrs. Sam Cole), Barbara (Mrs. Doug McKendrick), brothers Louis, John and Bill Lyle. He was predeceased by a sister Mary and a brother Tom. The Reverend E. Schamerhorn officiated at the funeral services held on Tuesday at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home. Mrs. Lloyd Ayre presided at the 1 chapel organ. Honorary pallbearers were Ken Lavery, Brockville, and A1 Wilson, F.S.S.F. members, nephews Jack Hughes, Jim Jakes, Gord and Tommy Millson. Many beautiful floral tokens were received in his memory attesting to the esteem in which the deceased was held, from F.S.S.A. 4th Co. 2nd Regt., the Midland Regt. "D" Company, Branch 178 Royal Canadian Legion, the Town of Newcastle, Darlington Generating Station and Fire Fighters. Donations were made to the Durham Lung Association, Memorial Hospital, St. Paul's United Church, the Canadian Cancer Society, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Interment Bowmanville Cemetery.
