Phone 6239519 Bowmanville Friends of the Salvation Army will be gathering this spring for a special, $100-a-plate fund-raising dinner designed to help boost the community's contribution to the Red Shield Appeal. Committee Chairman Carson Elliott Elliott announced last week that the dinner has been scheduled for Friday, Friday, April 26, at the Bowmanville Lions Centre. Details of the program are to be announced at a later date. However, However, the tax-deductible function will include a gourmet meal and entertainment. entertainment. Captain Ellis Cuff, of the Bowmanville Bowmanville Salvation Army Corps, said money raised from the dinner and from other Red Shield Appeal activities will go towards the Salvation Salvation Army's community service programs. These include rehabilitation of alcoholics and drug addicts, operation operation of sheltered workshops, assisting assisting senior citizens, performing prison work, running hospitals, and providing homes for homeless men and women. And Captain Cuff adds that they are available to all. "Nobody is turned away for lack of money," he explained. The Salvation Army hopes to raise $15,000 during this year's Red Shield Appeal. But with up to 300 tickets available available for the upcoming dinner, organizers organizers are hopeful that the community community can come up with a contribution contribution well in excess of the goal. Following the Ode, our Pres., Agnes Howe, gave a reading "Just for today." Vera Staples gave the devotional on Love. The hymn "Come Let us Sing of a Wonderful Love" was sung. Scripture readings were from Matthew, Jeremiah, and John. As God loves us, he expects us to spread it to others. The devotional was closed with a poem on how God loves us and always will, followed by prayer. The minutes were read and approved. The treasurer's report and flower report were given. Thank you's were read from Mrs. Etta Robinson and Dennis Fransky and family. It was acknowledged that a thank you was in the Lindsay Post from Don Taylor. Linda Pfoh gave a financial report on the new church organ. The old organ and bench was sold to Ian and Lynda Page.
