She is currently employed at the Oshawa Medical Center. Family Holds Annual Picnic At Thistle Valley Park On Sunday, August 11, 1985, the Coombes family gathered at Thistle Valley Park for their 25th annual picnic. The 29 present sat down to an enjoyable buffet lunch at 1:00 p.m. After lunch, presidents Don and Carol Gill welcomed all, and asked Dan to read the minutes of the previous picnic. Continuing executive for 1986 are as follows - Presidents: Don and Carol Gill; Secretary- Treasurer: Dan; Sports Committee: Don and Heather. The yearly games were conducted with all the small children being given a gift. Winners are as follows: relay race: Dan's team, tire roll: Jim, water balloons: Randy and Jim, Rowlie and Dan, baseball throw: Dan. The watermelon weight was guessed correctly by Jacqui. Rod held the winning ticket in the apple basket raffle, and Chris Anger won the record gift certificate. 1 The traditional horseshoe tournament was held, with Jill and Dan emerging victorious. Baseball and visiting was also enjoyed in the afternoon. A buffet supper and a candy toss for children concluded the beautiful, sunny day. The perfect perfect weather made it a great day for the 25th Coombes picnic, picnic, and a good time was had by all. Durham YMCA Now Accepting Nursery School Registration The Durham Region Family YMCA is now taking registration registration for Nursery School, to begin on the Wednesday following following Labour Day (Sept. 4) in the Whitby-Oshawa, Maple Grove, Pickering, and Port Perry areas. These pre-school programs are planned for children between between the ages of Vk and 5 years. Daily activities are planned by our experienced staff which offer children a wide variety of choices, i.e.: playdough, puzzles, blocks, imaginative play, housekeeping, housekeeping, and dress-up, as well as cognitive and creative activities, including pasting and painting. Circle time is an enjoyable lime for the children, when they have an opportunity to learn new songs and also sing their favourites. Daily, an age-appropriate story is read, finger-plays are enjoyed by the group, and a snack is served. Age-appropriate games are played by the children children to complete their day. Through these carefully planned activities children have the opportunity to socialize socialize and inter-act through play with others their own age. The Nursery Schools are held from 9:30 to 11:1)0 a.m, for 2to 5-year-olds, and from 1:15 to 3:15 p.m. for 4-year-olds. The ' V also has French Immersion Nursery Schools in Whitby and Oshawa, for child- ren aged 3 to 5 years.
