The Stouffville game was league play and was close throughout. The Toros scored two goals in the first period with Greg Martin and Brian Noble each netting one. Chris Beck assisted on both goals while Martin and Noble assisted assisted on each others. In the second period Noble scored again from Scott Page and Tim Vanlewen. The third period was tight but Beck lied up the game with passes from defensemen Dave Tupah and Jamie Lever. The power play goal by Kelley Balsom clinched clinched the win with assists going to Beck and Noble. On November 17th the Toros met Whitby AAA's Midgets for an exhibition game which ended in another win for the Toros. The Toros scored twice in the first period to one goal from Whitby. Brian Noble and Mike Gallant each scored with Martin, Armstrong, Vanlewen and Thompson all earning assists. In the second period the Toros were scoreless but Whitby went ahead by one goal. In the third period play was close until Chris Beck put in the tie goal. Brian Noble and Kelley Balsom assisted. The pressure was kept on, Greg Martin netted the winner with 18 seconds left in the game, with assists going to iinemates Beck and Noble. Boyle Bantams Hand Whitby 6-2 Defeat in Bowmanville The Boyle Bantams hosted the Whitby Bantams on Saturday, Saturday, November 10th at the Bowmanville Arena with Boyle's winning the game 6 - 2. In the first period Bowmanville Bowmanville was able to score three times while Whitby slipped only one goal by the strong goaltending of Shane O'Brien. Goal scorers were Terry Kellett, Warren Haldenby and 0. J. Sidor with assists going to Zenon Nelson, David Reid, Jeff Shannon, Tim Smith and Paul Brunt (two). Martin Vanderheyden scored a nice goal in the second period with 0. J. Sidor and D. J. Higgon picking up the assists. In the final period Whitby could only sneak one more goal by Paul Stephens in net while Boyle's boys scored twice on goals by Zenon Nelson and Terry Kellett with his second of the night. Assists were picked up by Terry Kellett, 0. J. Sidor and Steven Bizi. On Saturday, November 17th, the Northminster Bantams visited the Boyle team and found the Boyle boys a very strong, hard-working team. Neither team were able to score during the first two periods but in the final period Terry Kellett again scored two goals and D. J. Higgon one. Assists were awarded to 0. J. Sidor (two), Warren Haldenby, Haldenby, Martin Vanderheyden and Steven Bizi. Final score was 3 - 0 in favour of Boyle's. The Boyle team has an excellent group of boys who put out their best effort for this game foiling Northminster's winning streak this season. Fantastic goaltending was put forth by both Paul Stephens and Shawn O'Brien. We would like to welcome Shane Crombie and Shawn Carlton to the Boyle line-up as both these boys put out a steady effort and will certainly be of benefit to the team. Keep up this super team effort boys! Buckham Bantams Down Little NHL Black Hawks On November 13, the return match betwen the Little NHL Blackhawks and Buckham Minor Bantam Toros was staged with Toros ready to avenge a previous loss. With a full roster (except for Tony Van Hoof) Toros flew out of the gates scoring in the early minutes of the first period. However, play soon evened out and the period ended tied: Scoring:John-Paul Ducz- malewski (Doug Lever). Toros dominated the second taking shooting practice at an exasperated goalie beating him four times. Scoring: Neil Taylor (Greg Goode, Shane Armstrong) ; Dean Baum- hauer (Jim Pithie, Tim Powers); Troy Mutton (Nicky Dennis); Greg Healey (Shane Armstrong, Neil Taylor). Third period play degenerated degenerated rapidly with twelve penalties penalties being called (six each) and short-handed teams playing playing sloppy hockey. Toros, nevertheless, managed two more goals: Neil Taylor (Shane Armstrong, Greg Healey); Greg Goode (Doug Lever) ending the game 7 -1 in favour of the Toros. Tournament On Saturday, November 17, the team travelled to Wood- ville to take part in a bantam tournament. In the first game Toros were pitted against a Newcastle team in a see-saw battle that was more see-saw than battle. Although the Toros won the game 4 - 3, play appeared sluggish, probably the result of an early morning rising. The finely-tuned, crisp passing, evident in last week's games against double A teams was missing, but thanks to some hot goal tending the final score remained respectable. Scoring began early in the first with a blazing drive from the point by John-Paul Ducz- malewski (Stephen Smith). A few minutes later Dean Baumhauer unassisted repeated repeated the act driving one from the blue-line at ice level past a mesmerized goalie. In the second period Greg Healey lead an assault at the net passing the puck beyond the sprawling goalie to the waiting Neil Taylor who quickly dumped it in. (assist to Shane Armstrong). The third period brought one more goal: Stephen Smith from Nicky Dennis and Troy Mutton in a classic three on two passing play. The Toros began to cave-in at times but were kept alive by some fancy puck-saving antics from Greg Goode who deflected a rising puck with 'sure goal' written all over it and Mike Ruthard who seemed to have extra arms and legs as he consistently consistently bounced pucks clear. Woodville and Bowmanville faced off in the afternoon in wlmt turned out to be a hardhitting hardhitting match that unfortunately unfortunately saw Bowmanville go clown to defeat 5 - 2. In the first Tim Powers backhanded a rambling puck under the pads of the Woodville Woodville goalie only to have it sit dead on the goal line. Fortun ately, Doug Lever finished the play but it was symbolic of what was to happen in the next several minutes. Although Shane Armstrong (Troy Mullon) managed to score in the second, the team got into penalty difficulties and this combined with Woodville hustle prevented the typical 'Toro recharging' to take place and the team succumbed. succumbed. Uxbridge One night's reflection and a chalk-talk later, the refreshed Toros stormed onto the ice Sunday, to down the Uxbridge bantam team 4 - 2 in a game that could have ended up with a heavier lop-sided score. For the first two periods the Toros consistently knocked Uxbridge Uxbridge off the puck, passed sharply and cleanly beat the defense only to be frustrated by goal posts and goalie pads. Toro scoring was limited, as a result, to the first period: Nicky Dennis from Stephen Smith and Troy Mutton; Nicky Dennis unassisted; Greg Healey from Dean Baumhauer and Shane Armstrong; Armstrong; Jim Pithie from Doug Lever and Tim Powers. Bolahood's Tie By JocIIumenick On Saturday, November 17th Bolahood's hosted Ajax and skated to a two all draw. Once again Bowmanville had to come from behind with some fine offensive forechecking efforts. Markham notched the first goal at the 7:04 mark of the first period and had several chances to increase the score had it not been for some fine goaltending of Jarrett Alts. Bolahood's tied the score on a low wrist shot from Brandon Osmond with assists going to Collin Taggart and Matt Yeo. Both teams played a fast third period and Markham took the lead at the 0:30 mark. With time running out, Coach Osmond put together a fine power play which paid off, with Craig Forsey scoring at the 2:03 mark with Matt Dykstra assisting. Markham 7 Bolahood's 2 On Sunday, Nov. 18th, Bolahood's travelled to Markham and came up on the short end of a 7 to 2 score. Markham notched the first two goals of the game, and it wasn't until the 10:57 mark of the second period when Matt Dykstra scored on a fine low wrist sitôt unassisted. Bolahood's (throughout this contest) had numerous scoring chances hut failed to capitalize on their opportunities. Danny Couillard notched Bolahood's final goal on some hard work in front of the net with Matt Dykstra assisting. Fine two way efforts by Matt Dykstra and Craig Forsey offered fine scoring chances for these two spark plugs. The final score was not a I mu account of litis game as Bolahood's could have just as easily won this contest.
