Fiddle Contest Results Our staff fiddle contest expert, 'Senator' Jim Coyle has just submitted his report along with comments on the various competitions and competitors. He says it has been a great year for fiddlers and has high praise for the many young people who have been amazing judges with their skills. Frank Leahy Jr. had been one of the big winners this season, taking the Open Class at Bobcaygeon and Shelburne. At Orono, Shawn Rondell won the 12 and under class. Kara Anderson topped the 18 and under. George Stinson, Ross Morrow and A1 Smith came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the 65 and over and Albert Mouer won the Open class, followed by David Weir and Jim Lowery. At Port Perry, Sharon Mundell won the 12 and under, Kara Anderson won the 18 and under, with Karl McNaughton taking the 15 to 59 class. Again Albert Moher won the Open and George Stinson, the 60 and over. At Shelburne, the big winner was Tommy McQueston who won the 60 and over for the third consecutive year, eliminating eliminating him from competition next year. He's amazing for a 79 year old fiddler. The 17 contestants in the 12 and under class put on a great show, with David Jones the winner. In the 18 and under, Pierre Schryer was tops. Lloyd Wilson was best for the 19 to 45 class. Jerry Smith won the 45 to 65, John Crosmen won the open class. Annette Haines of Oshawa proved that marksmanship should be termed markswoman- ship as she outshot all male competitors in the Orono Fish and Hunt Club Turkey Shoot on Sunday. Sunday. Annette recorded the high total for the day with 14 pellets hitting the target. This young shooter tried his hand at hitting a revolving turkey head with a bullet from a .22 calibre rifle. This time the paper turkey head was lucky. Contrary to popular belief, no turkeys are shot at the annual event. Paper replicas are the only targets in the annual event. MERVYN B.
